USA (NOW V3.0!), Canada, France and Belgium AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Very interested in their Serial Numbers,

Since the register either doesn't have it or a bogus one.

Guys, my work now takes me through Kinder and Elton, LA. Saw M60A3 in both towns and saw them listed in registry. I will take photos and get S/N's. Both appeare to have very recent 3 color CARC paintwork done.

Chuck,

Tanks a bunch on those Chiriaco summit M60A1's. I pretty much knew they were USMC tanks. 7000 series was from the initial Marine conversion to M60's from M48's. What's cool is the large grouping of very late 10,000 series tanks. They should all have one piece bustle racks. Those came from the late acquisition. Those are some of the last M60A1's ever made for the US.

That M60A1 SN 3087 back deck on that Fort Bragg M60 seems to be a common ailment with them. My theory is that happened in West Germany when many battalions had both M60's and M60A1's, since all the decks I've seen mis-matched on M60's were early M60A1 models. Good thing you were able to get the lug number.

Thanks for posting

And moving on...

This bedraggled M60A3 (yes, the LRF door is on the other side) is in the 2nd ACR Museum o' The Swamp. She is S/n 3908A.

More to come...I got some Lingles in my hard drive!

Next is Ft. Bragg, NC. This M60A0 is located in the new National Guard complex near where the old WWII barracks (we called them Splinter Village) were. The engine deck shows S/n 3087, but the front tow hook has a different number (155?). As you can see, there are several other vehicles there, which I will eventually get posted here.

Additions from the Patton Museum in Chiriaco Summit, CA, as of late 2006:

M60A1 S/n 84x6 (can't read the 3rd digit)
M60A1 S/n 7126
M60A1 S/n 7157
M60A1 S/n 7181
M60A1 S/n 7187
M60A1 S/n 7535
M60A1 S/n 7548
M60A1 S/n 10187
M60A1 S/n 10228
M60A1 S/n 10354
M60A1 S/n 10369
M60A1 S/n 10375
M60A1 S/n 10414
M60A1 S/n 10429
M60A1 S/n 10442

I believe these are all formerly Marine tanks, probably from the Stumps nearby. They are scattered around the rear of the museum, several are outside the fence. Some are in pretty decent shape, others are missing multiple components as if they were cannibalized for spares. About half of them have preservative tape/film on many of the periscopes and vision blocks. One of them still has the reactive armor inert panels in place. I have pics of each listed here, with their front and rear serials. I'll post the pics in my gallery as I have time to upload them.

With luck I'll be able to confirm they are still there early next year (2010).

Welcome ShermanWasRight

Very early M60A1 turret casting. Unless modified, the loader's hatch should only have one open position vs the standard two. SN makes her an M60A3 Anniston rebuild.

This should be the location: 39.185600, -84.651867, I always suspected they were the same.

Thanks

You have an M60A3 listed in the Cincinnati area listed twice; it's listed under Cincinnati, Green Twp as "M60A3 AAD Rebuild s/n 2470A" as unconfirmed, and again under Dent, Ohio as "M60A1/A3?" This is the same vehicle, and I can confirm that it is s/n 2470A:

Hope this helps some

edit: forgot to include this; it's on the left side of the turret. Not sure what it means.

edit2: the park is called the Green Township War Memorial if you'd want to change that.
