The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Vagabond! Hi Folks!

278th ACR,....ACR?

Interesting. I remember reading somewhere that the last ACR was converting into a Heavy Bde Combat Team (HBCT).

Still an "ACR" in name I think, although I suppose it could change to just a plain "Cavalry Regiment" like the 2nd did (no, "Stryker Cavalry Regiment" is not an official designation, at least in lineage terms).

Hi,

There is probably someone who knows for sure, but I think that a lot of the Cav units kept their lineage when they converted to RSTA (Reconaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition) units. The 278th ACR would now be a RSTA brigade, but retains the traditional Cavalry name.

Nah, the 278th is an HBCT now - "Heavy Brigade Combat Team." Technically the 11th ACR is too.
