We need a hootenanny...a shindig...a flat out...

"Swinging Time"

I love that old Detroit Wheels sound!

Damn, that's some good stuff! My parents had a 45 of the Chuck Willis version of "CC Rider" that we played all the time. Hadn't heard the Detroit Wheels version.

Also, a belated shout-out to 1Bullet for posting "Stranglehold" on the previous page. Always good to hear a little Steady Ted, and there are some days you just need to play that particular song.

When I make my retro-biker-Vietnam movie, that and "Gimme Some Lovin" will be in it. I don't know what the movie is about, but I've got a pretty good soundtrack lined up.... Wink

"Gloria" might or might not make the cut, but the "B" side of that record definitely will...you can count on it!

"After Midnight" might be a little too contemporary for my movie, but a Clapton song might make it in the list...it would be with blind faith and titled "Can't find my way home". Wink

Not to worry, the Motown Sound is also scheduled to be on the soundtrack courtesy of Martha and the VD's... Wink

"Nowhere to Run"

This will somehow be tied into the big pursuit scene through the jungle* (I know, I thought about CCR and "Run Through the Jungle", but I'm saving their credit for "Born On The Bayou"...it was a tough call, but RTTJ is not "intense" enough).

*Alternatively, I might use it for the big police chase scene later on motorcycles, sorta' like "The Wild Angels" chase of "Loser" on Pines-to-Palms Hiway in SoCal, but on a bigger scale.

I'm tellin' ya', people will be lined up around the block to see my movie for the soundtrack alone. I just need some financial backing. Laughing

...and instead of the usual "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Crimson and Clover" I'm going to work one of the more obscure TJ&TS songs in there. Does anyone here even remember this one besides me?

It wasn't a hit on the scale of the other TJ&TS stuff, and won't get played on any classic rock stations. I only heard it on the "alternative" FM station, and then only in 1969, so it's before your time. Actually, the version I used to hear was by Johnny Thunder (formerly of the Ink Spots and The Drifters...not to be confused with Johnny Thunders.

This is the version I used to hear on the radio in high school:

Well (just for the record), maybe and maybe not....I'da been 8 years old *but* I was lucky enough to grow up in a house that always had a radio turned on and tuned to the local rock / pop station, unless my parents were playing records or my Mom was playing the piano. But you're otherwise right, as KAVR didn't quite delve into too many of the alternative or non-mainstream tunes...however not all of them are foreign to these young ears Wink

The day Mason Williams came out with his first album really changed our whole household. Luckily the takeaway was what a great thing it was (and is) to be so passionate over something!

Well for some reason, "I'm Alive" used to be matched with Quicksilver's verson of "Mona" whenever I'd heard one or the other. Both were right at the peak of psychedelic influence. I preferred QMS version to even Bo Diddley, but you have to get into the song to appreciate it...love the watery effects. Great stuff at night, if you know what I mean, even in a car.

"Mona"

"Painting by Numbers" -James McMurty

Yep, son of Larry McMurtry. A song for our age.
