Engine swap. Ford FE in a Ranger pickup regular cab. That's the same as a Mazda B Series, for scale. Burns a set of Hoosier slicks to the ground. SERIOUS tight fit (check firewall clearance)

www.youtube.com/watch?...re=related

its a 72 block borded .40 over forged pistons with 68 non emission heads with cobra jet oversized valves and 68cc chambers crane cam like .538 interceptor converter c6 band m shift kit custom fab driveshaft and 9 inch rear comp lifters and magnum pushrods and performer intake and comp dual valve springs and holley 750 single pumper and msd 6al with 6500 chip with powertrax locker and way to much to list lol

Of course, it would never ET with that weight distribution, but what a hoot on the street. Must be a real handful in the snow.
Mr. Green

"A little Different"....in the same way the Spruce Goose was "a step above small".

The guys at Car Craft magazine have taken about a year so far on a project to put a small-block chevy in an S-10 pickup....has nothing on that Ranger!

I've heard that FE series mills are getting outrageously expensive to build these days. So it's absolutely heartwarming to see them being still put to good use like that, regardless!

FE's are not a no-brainer to build right. Small block Chevy's (which, as you know, can be quite big...even the factory put 400 c.i. versions out there) pretty much are.

Even small block Fords took some savvy, but the FE's are fastidious to get right. Ergo, parts that work are not so readily available in the aftermarket. I had a huge advantage back in the day because I lived about 15 miles from a little firm called Holman-Moody, that even Ford farmed out it's racing builds to. They were very approachable about advice and parts (my 8V aluminum medium riser setup with matched Holleys was $120, slightly used off of a dyno test rig).*

If I was doing a project today, I'd probably get a prepped crate motor, or at least a long block. Roush, of course, can provide anything that makes your heart go pitty-pat. For a price. Wink

I'll try to scan the back of one of my H-M catalogs from '68 and show you the racks of engines. Shocked

Awesome!!! Reminds me of my days as a drag racer...

While I'm not a huge fan of Ford, the builder did a nice job with this project and the performance speaks for itself... Wink

It was so perfect and clean when I brought it home, my mom didn't even object to it being on the carpet!
Notice how on the FE, the pushrods run through the intake manifold. This is one way the FE's achieved such favorable valve angles (and high cams with short pushrods) while having a relatively small valve cover (compared to Hemi's and Chevy "rat motors"). The valve cover actually goes over part of the head and part of the intake manifold. I can't think of another engine that did that.

So, plan on removing/reinstalling the pushrods and adjusting the valve lash with any intake manifold swap, eh?

...as well as the rocker arm shafts, on which the rocker arms are conveniently mounted. Four main bolts , IIRC.
