APG Armed Forces day May 15, 2013
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi All,
I'm submitting a few photos from the Armed Forces Day at Aberdeen Program this year. Items there: MRAP Buffalo, Stryker APC, Stryker NBC Recon., Hummers, Black Hawk Utility version helicopter, and other trucks from Aberdeen Agencies. The 203 MI Battalion also showed a BRDM 2 vehicle. Rick

A few more "distant" shots from the Museum, this way You can get an idea what's left.

If they're feeling pressed for space, I think I can put that T-92 in my garage and they can even have it back when I die.

Interesting what is left. I could still make a decent 'History of Armor' tour with what they have. The Whippet and the Mk IV the two oldest, The Vickers Mk II. Matilda (Which has an interesting story on its own) Pz III and M13/41 from the Desert War. Churchill, Sherman JPzIV, JPanther from late war. Atomic Annie, Leopard, M-60, MBT70, T-92, Soviet SPH and scout car. I wonder if there is a T-54 and a PT76 in front of some buildings on base?

It looks like Ed did a pretty good job of keeping some stuff back. And what is the story on the Plane in the shot of the Sherman? It looks like there are other pillars in the background are there other birds along that road?

Bob,
Unfortunately, they are still going to send some vehicles to other bases (Ft. Lee, Ft. Sill, etc.) this according to the Guard who I signed in with. There's no one there to ask what goes where, as the Museum is empty, and PAO office doesn't have the new museum opening date (thus why the banner is gone), One item stands out: Anyone seen the Jagdtiger? The plane in background is a 1st Gulf war spy plane. I know little about "wingy things" so any ID will have to be from one of our Pilots! No other new displays (other than the items from Ft. Monmouth) are there. I did note the MBT 70 pilot is still there. The current budget with the "Sequester" is probably the reason nothing moves for now. Rick Almost forgot: there was a T54 or T55 in front of the 203 MI Battalion buildings, so maybe you can still do some Historic Tours!

Doug, If they give you the T92 for your garage, I want next pick for my garage! lol. Rick

The aircraft is a Beech A200 Super King Air c/n BC-66, N66000, formerly operated for some sort of secret squirrel recon gig, I'm guessing. Wonder what happened to her to have her up on a pole like that.

It's funny, on another mil board I read someone posted about their base having no money left for grounds keeping; it looks as though that's the same problem here.

Per this website:

www.spyflight.co.uk/200.htm

(See last entry, the last three entries, actually)

Googling for the reg. number brings up lots of images in-service.

The Old Ordnance School Building had a late model PT76 Tank in front of it as recent as 2009. (Bob)
There is a data plate on the Beech Plane stating its uses, I just don't have photos. I did photo 2 planes and 3 helicopters at Sea Girt, NJ today, I'll post in "other" category on AFV News. (JG300)
There are other places where the Grounds have been let go, besides the former Ordnance Museum. I noticed other empty lots were not cut also. (ShermanwasRight)

Further to...

Joe Baugher's excellent tail number registry sez': Apply three letter agency(s) as seems appropriate. Antenna array plus visual snooping gear suggest that maybe more than one was involved, or shared personnel.

78-23126/23139 Beech C-12C Huron
Military version of A200 Super King Air

23130 (BC-66) damaged at Moffett Federal Air Field Jan 29, 2002
when undercarriage collapsed during landing. Was repaired.
Registered to US Government of Bluemont, VA Apr 16, 2003 as N66000.
Photographed passing through Prestwick IAP, Scotland Apr 21, 2005
on way to Wiesbaden AAF, Germany. Several unusual aerials
are present. Reportedly to be used in Bosnia to hunt for
war criminals.

There has been a lot of use of the C-12 airframe for recon and sig-int use by the Army and the Air Force. MC-12, EC-12 and RC-12 are common varieties

In 2012 we could hear them at night following the Pakistan border, from the COP I was at in Eastern Afghanistan in 2011-2012. And there were quite a few under clamshells and in hangers at Bagram Airfield during the longer-than-desired time I spent there in early 2012. They mostly flew at night. Some were in standard military gray paint, others were hard to tell from civilian a/c...except for the extra aerials and antennas.
