Yesterday we had the Belgian championship orienteering at the base in Oirschot, to my surprise I stumbled upon this:

P-O, I know you did ask for the serial number for this one, but there was much paint and corrosion to see a number on the towlugs.

Lesley: The Leopards you mentioned wheren't there anymore, however there was a Leopard 2, 3 Bridgelayers and a arv at the parkinglot (still operational ???). Furthermore 2 AMX 13 where placed as monuments at the base.

BTW the Firefly has still the markings Sherman M4A3 Vc Fyerfly on the bow Confused

Maybe someone should tell them what they really have there.

I was told that there was a Sherman at Oirschot but that it was temporary. It seems that it will stay there!

IIRC the former resident 11th Tank Battalion never had the Sherman.

A couple of months after 11 tkbat was disbanded the monument is moved.

One of the AMX-13 is in front of the builings of 42nd Armoured Infantry battalion and the other in front of the regimental museum of the Guard Fusiliers Princess Irene Regiment.

There still is a Leopard 2A6 is use as ballast for low loader drivers. It belongs to the driving (?) school.

I would really really like to see it myself, hope that there will be an opportunity sometime in the future. Michel, do you think you could have an access to the base in Oirschot again, if I come in September?

If it was on a Belgian base, it could be possible. However Oirschot is in The Netherlands so there is no chance I could get access to the base.
This was a one of a kind situation.
