Illinois Static Displays (Google Earth KML)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Illinois Static Displays (Google Earth KML)

Attached is a KML file I developed using the register, way marking, local driving, searching VFW/America Legions, etc. This is just for Illinois, I have some other states done, but this one is the most complete "marking."

Just thought I would put it out there if anyone was interested. Feel free to mess around with the file, I didn't put any information in each static except for the title. As I visit them I up date the static information. For example a ton say "artillery" until I see them and confirm the model. Not sure if there is something like this already created. If so, I would love to see it.

Hi Quentin, Last year I made KML/KMZ files and Garmin GPX (Custom locations files to be loaded into a GPS unit) for all 50 US states. The files are hosted on Michel's site at: www.afvregister.org/Download.aspx I too used smilier resources to compile. I look forward to seeing how you put your's together! Cheers!

Thank you both! These are great!

After looking at all the created products, I have to pause and consider how to make this work building off the GREAT work that has clearly already been done, I am generally interested in all types of "memorial" static displays. I always debate whether to use the excel files as my base, it makes it a little more time consuming but in the long run more informative or just work in Google Earth with "plots". I will keep everyone posted on how I integrate the AFVs, Artillery, and Aircraft statics as I go. I will start with Illinois and experiment with some "knowledge management" ideas.

Ive been using Microsoft ACCESS, it works well and easy to attach a photo to. I've tried using LibreOffice 4.4 which is free, but I'm not smart enough to figure how to attach a pic.
