Air Force fun????
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello Jeff,
Looking at the refuelling probe and the number on the nose it looks like a UK AF Hercules to me put over some ''not looking like the UK'' landscape with some photoprogram.

My guess is that it is fake / photoshopped,

Regards,
Lesley

Note the darker spots above and below the wing at the right of the picture. Wonder what was "photoshopped" out of the original(s).

I think he'd never freakin' fly again if anyone was so stupid as to do this. Fake.

That C130 is obviously piloted by Gallagher, about to drop a load of fire-retardent product on the hapless groundlings. Beats hitting a watermelon with a mallet any day!

Saw a wonderful photoshopped pic of a Hercules making a carrier landing one day.

Au Contrair!, mon ami....probably NOT photoshopped...C-130's did takeoff and land from carriers! (Well, one carrier, the Forrestal, during feasability tests...)

"The initial seaborn landings, on October30, 1963, were made into a 40-knot wind. Altogether, the crew successfully negotiated 29 touch-and-go landings, 21 unarrested full stop landings and 21 unassisted take-offs at gross weights of 85,000 pounds up to 121,000 pounds. At 85,000 pounds, the KC-130Fcame to a complete stop within 267 feet, about twice the aircraft's wing span! The Navy was delighted to discover that even with the maximum load, the plane used only 745 feet for take-off and 460 feet for landing roll. The short landing roll resulted from close coordination between Flatley and Jerry Daugherty, the carrier's landing signal officer. Daugherty, later to become a captain and assigned to the Naval Air Systems Command, gave Flatley an engine "chop" while still three or four feet off the deck."

and of course, you heard it first at Com-Central! (see thread in link below)

I was always under the impression that the carrier take-offs were RATO-assisted, but the lower photo clearly shows this was not the case. Cool!

Not to mention U2 test flights off a carrier in the Pacific (which happended in the same area/time as French nuclear testing a long time ago).

Armour content: the TR-1 program was a U-2 fitted with ASARS ("Assault Breaker") electronics to allow stand-off identification of Soviet armour formations should war break out in Europe. The program was later replaced by JSTARS and UAVs.

Tenuous I know...
