LOL, King Abdullah of Jordan visited VMMV
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I wonder if someone is trying to get some tanks out of Jordan?

Hi Folks!

Any King who takes the time to visit an AFV collection with a M114 Lingle in it is all right by me.

I may be wrong, but didn't he appear once as an extra on Star Trek the Next Generation while he was still crown prince 10-12 yeas ago? I somehow doubt it would be Assad's son that I'm thinking of.

Well Jordan has been getting a lot of Challenger 1s from the UK, replacing old Centurions - but VMMV already has two Centurions. However, Jordan does have almost 100 Chieftains (Khalids) and almost 50 M60A1/A3s in storage. Or maybe a spare Challenger 1? Wink

Last time I saw the M114 (basically October '04) they had it modded up with an ACAV shield... How common were M114 ACAVs? I've seen plenty of pictures of M113 ACAVs, but never of an M114 ACAV...

Hi Neil! Hi Folks!

In US service, none AFAIK. However I have seen photos of ARVN M114s with guns shields that look like the type later mounted on the M113 ACAVs.

My 2 cents,
Sgt, Scouts Out! Smile

When you read the King's bio, it is obvious he is well trained in modern mechanized warfare - recce, tanks, attack helocopters, special forces, etc. No shrinking violet with a twenty-year career of repositioning anti-aircraft batteries and straightening the boxes in QM. Other than Whatsis-Name in North Korea who continually reinvents himself, I doubt there are any other modern leaders who can claim as much track time as the King of Jordan.

Apparently he also builds model tanks too, (I'm pretty sure it was him) saw an interview/profile on TV a while back. He was working on a S-tank, Trumpeter maybe? I didn't see which version.
