Post subject: A quick intro

Greetings one and all. I recently filled out an application to attempt joining your legendary smelly ranks when I was contacted by Exos. I am an Avid CFS3 pilot who would have it no other way. I understand a majority of your squadron have moved on into other sims. Exos suggested I stop in for a visit here and say hello to everyone.

I go by the callsign Hunt96 on CFS3 for now. From Tacoma, WA, and am on late evenings/early mornings PST for hours at a time.

V/R

Andy

S~ and hello, Hunt69, Thanks for dropping in!

(and THANK YOU, EXOS, for the email)

Glad you could make it our way. First dumb question from me (there may be many)....we've met in CFS3 online or flown together in a room, haven't we? Sorry if I don't recall, my memory is jumbled with player names anymore.

What aircraft do you like to fly in CFS3 as well? And do you fly on weekends?

And I believe you're currently serving in the Army? JG300-Ascout is an army vet himself, bet ya he'll be along to chat about military life n'stuff in no time.....

~S!~ Stoopy, thanks for the welcome.

I don't believe I have flown with you before. I have run into Exos on occassion, but as he stated, most of JG300 has moved away from CFS3. I have been playing online for about 6 months but have owned the game since it's first release. I fly mostly the BF109 and occassionally I may find my way into a Spitfire, but only on occassion. I tried out the FW-190 for awhile, but found it prone to stalling in slow-speed turns at low altitude, the BF-109 (or the pig as I call it) does the job well for me.

I do most of my flying on the weekends, usually late in the evenings. The wife doesn't like me being online all day long, but I do get freedom on occassion!

I've actually been playing flight sims since the original Flight Simulator was released from Microsoft many many years ago. Played it on my 386sx 20mhz machine! My dad taught me to fly growing up in his Piper Cub and then onto Cessna 172's, Piper Archers, and a Tampico as of late. I would have my own certification if they didn't want $8,000 for one everywhere near me!! Kind of hard to justify that one to the family just yet.

I have been in the Army for 10 years and am a Staff Sergeant. 10 more and I can retire at a young 38yrs.

Howdy Hunt, welcome to the sty!....OMG, you were probably born the year I graduated from high school ("Hey, hey, we're so fine, we're the class of '69")!

Yep, the FW is a "boom & zoom" ride, not a turn-and-burn dogfighter. Awesome firepower, though...the "Boss Hawg" (Stoopmeister) favors it. I liked the 109, once I got a handle on it...and could hold my own with even the Spits...thankfully, there's a nice 109 for FS9 as well!

So, wha' yer MOS? Better gimme' the title, too, if it's anything but 11-series as a lot of stuff changed over the years...

So...they got any armor up there at what I assume is Ft. Lewis where you're based? (I passed through Lewis once, on my way to S.E.A., long ago, but lived in the NW years later).

Settle in and mark off a spot in the hog wallow...!

~S!~ Ascout -

Was actually born about 8 1/2 years after your graduation! It's a bit ironic actually, I have this same conversation with all the new soldiers I get in out of basic training, young pups. I am a 96B Intelligence Analyst. A get the 11-series flavor from time to time. Been with mostly Infantry grunts my career, also working with the SF guys now.

No "Armor" at Lewis. But we are home to 3 x Stryket Brigade Combat Teams. The Stryker is the latest and greatest Army toy.

I have learned the 109 rather well as of late. I play with it almost primarily. I was horrible at first, used to flying mainly the Spit, but have gotten much better. Just had to find the sweet spot -- the right speed to bank and hard rudder on the brink of a stall but not quite. She'll hang rather nicely with a Spit at times.

My biggest problem is the whole landing piece. Not because I am horrible or anything at all, but my terrain is. The runway appears right as I am on top of it, which makes VFR landings a bit tricky as you have no landmarks to base it off of. Learned mainly time and headings on a perfect 18/36 runway. Still messing with settings. I stick landings in every other sim, this one won't break me!

Damn, like this guy already!!!!

Hunt, sounds like we started simming at about the same time. Was this with Flight Sim version 3 (when it was transitioning from the SubLogic label to the Microsoft label)? My first sim flights were on a PC back around the 8086 and 80286 era - right about 1984, '85. Straight polygons and 4 colors if you were lucky enough to have a CGA card. You learned to grease landings at about 10 FPS using the keyboard....then came EGA, 16 colors, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Woohooo! What a ways we've come.

In regards to your texture visibility, have you seen the tips in the CFS3 "Tweak and Tune Guide" in the CFS3 forum here?

Swines, I'm thinkin' we gotta fire up our rides and get in the air with Hunt here......

I had an unfortunate run in this evening. I was turning hard onto a member of AARP, one on one, guns blazing from my 109. Out of nowhere entered the cavalry, two more AARPs with Spits came in on my 6 along with an FF member. It seemed like a bad trap had been set as the 1st AARP said at the exact moment.. "All Set?" I had a wingman, somewhere... It was a good evening, all in all 9 kills in the game. They flew quite well as a team, covering one another.

Makes me wonder where my wingmen did end up that fateful evening? Wink

I am looking forward to flying with you gentlemen sometime.

Stoop - BTW, I am trying to remember the version.. I started out actually on an Apple II, the one where the disk had to be put in, no OS.. Very very poor graphics (Black and Green). But I was a wee little one. The Flight Sim I played on my 80386 had a couple of aircraft that would take off, fly a pattern, and land, then that was it.. About 16 colors I believe - was one of the lucky ones at the time Wink

I bought every add-on I could get my hands on for terrain and aircraft building. And it was keyboard all the way!

Bullet - I do remember coming across you once or twice recently within the last month? If I remember, you flew rather well. I enjoy the 109 immensely. Even more as I learn her quirks, and she learns mine as well. A well oiled machine.

Glad you made it here, Hunt!

I might fly the ole CFS tonight, maybe, but will probabilly be drunk Shocked

Don't worry, happens all the time.

If you could get your hands on a copy of FS9, that would be great too!

If any other swines wants to fly tonight, maybe we could give Hunt here an evaluation regarding his application??

I'll do my absolute best to get on....it'll be late (11:00 EST time) if I can. For sure, we need to do something about Hunt getting some support when outnumbered by these AARP folks......definite action needed there to help the guy out, although he sounds like he handled 'em just fine!
