Poll: The sorta' peripheral, decidedly OT handloader thead.
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Is there enough interest for a handloader/reloader thread somewhere?
Heck yeah! Always looking for new ideas/products without having to listen to insults and asinine war stories!

Since we exposed three perpetrators of this arcane activity, maybe there's enough interest around for those that like to "roll their own". Dedicated forums abound, but this one's just between us and we all take an oath not to insult others loads or propose outrageous load data....or generally fib. Good way to learn about stuff from others who already tried it...

Whaddaya' say...enough participants and/or interest? Exercise your right to vote!

what is a "handloader/reloader"?
I am from the UK, is it the same as someone who put the W in anchor?

Hi Tim...
That's those of us who prefer to load their own ammunition, be it for cost containment, availability/construction of unusual or particular combinations, or precision. It's possible to tune loads to the needs and nuances of even a particular example of a firearm...usually with better results than with available factory loadings.

..and then there's the "artsy" craftsmanship thing...like tying your own fishing flies rather than buying "off the rack".

At the moment, paradoxically, it appears that "Maybe" is winning by a landslide.... Laughing

I used to do that sort of thing (it was cheaper than buying new Norma 7.62x54R for my Nagants back in the 1980's), but I'm no expert on it and have little to contribute. Could be interesting to hear other folks ideas, though.

The topic reminds me of my rural brother-in-law. A million-billion old guns filling one of the outbuildings in his farm. He has about as much interest in armor as I have in kinds of gunpowder. I see as two entirely distinct topics.

I like him already! What was that address again?

We always have the "Officers Club" if a loading thread will disrupt the chi of the armor universe. We've used it for gearhead car and mo'cycle talk, why not ammo....? Just seemed like more overlap with some of this group.

Besides the brother-in-law, I've also got an ex-Marine nephew who's purchased one of those fancy modern British sniper rifles (can't recall the designation off the top of my head). Cost him mucho dinero but he's now able to shoot the centers out of nickels for target practice! Shocked

It's outta' my hands, now...the issue was decided by an ongoing brisk discussion on the relative merits of annealing processes and the admittedly tenuous relationship of personal weapons to armor crewmen (tankers gotta' eat, ya' know? That stray rabbit could save your crew's life in dire circumstances...).

Thus, if designating a thread to loading topics doesn't kill it before it gets going, the place to discuss this arcane art shall be here (hijacked from under Roy Lingle's nose while he wasn't looking....):

This old Scout has been conducting 'silent watch' over this thread. Wink Wink Wink Wink

Just glad to see I helped start something new.
