Nah - common mistake perpetuated by Wikepdia amongst others. The 'owners' manual calls it LVTC-3 so we have to assume thats correct... though I suspect it may have originally been called LVT-3C till someobody realised they still had the originals in service..

No - Crismon mentions it in his US Military Tracked Vehicles. Yuba also produced a wheeled gun tractor powered by steam!

I have pics of 2-3 early American tanks powered by steam...of course, they're at home where I ain't.

M47 though, is definitely in another time frame...
