WW2 US armor in color
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

No big problem, Shawn...the "properties" line for that image was three lines long and you only copied the first two lines. I went to the gallery, found the pic, and copied the whole filename between the "img" thingies....

I've seen that big yellow circle around the star before, but I don't recall any of the modeling magazines having the nerve to do-up a kit in this scheme. It seems to just cry out "Aiming point here! Shoot me! Shoot me!"

The yellow ring is probably gas vessicant paint.
For overlord, a lot of vehicles had this applied inside the circle around the star. If memory serves, the paint turned from a mustard yellow to a reddish tone if exposed to gas.

I bet if applied this to a model, some super judge at a contest would tell you how wrong it is.....

I beleive the yellow ring was a standard marking for a while in the mid war period. There was a period in 1943 when the US star on aircraft had a yellow wring around it, then the white bar was added and a variety of outline colors were tried before the dark blue border was settled on. I think that the yellow outline was strictly an MTO thing but I'm not sure.
