The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Hi Chris! Hi Folks!

[quote="toadmanstankpictures"]
UPDATE 26AUG06
34 pics of a M114A1 "Lingle"

Super set of "Lingle" photos! Thanks!

One point for you Chris. The "Lingles" with split hatchs are NOT 'A1s'. That is a plain M-114 (or if you will a, M-114A0, my term, not offical). The M-114A1s had the XM-26 turret which the TC could fire while buttoned up. Twisted Evil

Some points for the Museum staff to consider:
1. The water can is mounted upside down. The cap should be up so less water will leak out of the can. I don't think I ever knew of one of those water cans that didn't leak. Crying or Very sad
2. Radio system is wrong. Surprised
2. a. Vehicle has two auxiliary receiver antennas, it should only have one if the vehicle is a squad leader vehicle.
2. b. There is no auxiliary receiver mounted on the radio shelf.
2. c. There is no receiver/transmitting antenna base for the radio. That type of radio, which is correct for a squad leader vehicle, should have an auxiliary receiver mounted on the radio shelf. Without the aux receiver, that radio in not normally found in that vehicle.
2. d. Antenna where generaly not mounted on the right side of the vehicle due to interfearance with the observer's field of fire. Also there would be a requirment for very long cables.
3. Two pick heads, should only be one. Confused
4. There should be a tanker's bar on top the rear edge of the hull if they have one. It was bit shorter that the ones found on tanks. There is something else wrong about the tools on the outside of the rear hatch. Maybe missing a long handled hammer?

Update! I remember now! Razz But then I was looking in Hunnicutt's Bradley book for help! Confused The item that is missing is the tripod for the M-60 machine gun. The units I was with, never carried it on the outside because it got very dirty. We always carried in them inside! The M-114 didn't have a long handled hammer! The M-113s had one for driving track pins in and out!

5. Why did they mount the fixed fire extinguisher where they did? Shocked As we have seen in photos that Jeff and Chuck have posted, those vehicles have the fixed extinguisher on the lower left wall next to the data plate. That area they have it mounted at is where the personel heater was mounted.
6. Chris please tell me that the inside of that vehicle is painted Sea Foam Green Smile and the lighting only makes it look like it has been painted white. Evil or Very Mad

Point to others, remember when I was talking about a hook that locked into that cutout on the observer's hatch. In Chris's photos you can see what I was remembering! In one photo you can see the hook locked into the hatch and in another, you can see the handle on the underside of the hull. That vehicle Jeff posted photos of must have some type hatch lock modification that I never saw!

All in all, it is great to see a M-114 that someone has taken a lot of trouble to clean up and restore. To all those who did the hard work and provided the funds to do that work, special thanks from this old scout!

Sgt, Scouts Out!

Hi Roy,
If anyone would have a gig sheet for my M114 pics, I knew it would be you! Laughing Laughing
I've corrected my site to show it as a M114. I'll see if anybody at the MVTF is interested in making the corrections. As for the color. I'm pretty sure its white! Sad I'll be heading up there for a visit tomorrow and will confirm for sure.

Fantastic pics as usual! Just like being there! Thanks!

I know that this is a tall request but I would like very much for some close ups of the SU-76i and either the SU-101 or SU- 102 self-propelled guns.

If they are to be found that is!

SU-76I:

SU-102 is scrapped in 60-s...
SU-101 preserved in Kubinka, and i not sure about walkarounds.

Thanks Taranov! I have a resin conversion kit on the way for the PIII and just wanted to check it for accuracy and details.

Hi Toad Man! Hi Folks!

- toadmanstankpictures

I was looking through the photos for the XM734 and noticed something out of place.

In the October batch, eight photo (looking at the back side of the TC's cuplo with a rag laying on the engine grill.

Problem with the driver's hatch. The staff has the plug for the IR driving scope mounted on the wrong side of the driver's hatch. That plug goes under the armored cover on the outside of the hatch. The way they have it mounted, an explosion above the vehicle would drive the plug down into the vehicle. The plug is wider that the openning for the IR scope's head. The overlapping edges rest on top of the hatch providing support in the event of a near by explosion. The way it is mounted in your photo, the only thing holding it in place is the quick release levers on both ends of the openning. Confused

Spot Report!

Chris, is that the original paint on the Staghound? Whats the significance of "SHIRL"? I was thinking maybe its a regimental acroynm?
