Roy Lingle: Front and Center....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I think both of them are before my time with C Troop.
Sad that those items would show up on e-bay.

Estate sale, possibly the executor has no connection with the people or events related to the items, so no incentive to handle it otherwise. Could be a broker, even. Just a yard sale.

Kinda' thing that should be bought, then donated to the Texas Tech Vietnam project or something....

From looking at the plaques it appears the person was a Chaplain. Were Chaplains assigned to each squadron?

Its been my experience that each Battalion (Squadron) had a Chaplain.

Bob...
Yep, likely a chaplain. I may run the name through the 11th CavNam database and see what comes up....

Well, this came up: "HHT, 3/11 1/1/1969 1/31/1970 CHAPLAIN" Looks like a typo on the DB regarding the 3rd....

Hi Bob! Hi Folks!

- bsmart

Were Chaplains assigned to each squadron?

From what I seen during my time in the Army, each major command level was assigned a Chaplain with an assistance, normaly going down to the Battalion/Squadron level.

The 2nd Sqdn Chaplain would come out to the field and spend a day or two with the troop from time to time. He would tag along on the daily RIFs by catching a ride on any vehicle that had room for him. During one movement to another AO, he was riding on my ACAV when the vehicle behind mine hit a land mine. He told us that the last time he had rode with G Troop, the vehicle behind the one he was riding on had also hit a land mine. My crew starting kiding him about having outstanding contections with the Man upstairs and that he should ride with the last vehicle in the colume. Some time latter he stopped by and told my crew that he had been doing just that. Guess what, each time he did, no one hit a land mine during his visits.

Some of my old history. Smile
Sgt, Scouts Out!

RIF = Recon In Force
AO = Area of Operations
