Patton Museum No 3 of 3
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Jeff I believe that is a M10 with a 3inch gun. I've seen this one and one at Aberdeen I think.

Seems to me that it is a M10 Wolverine too.. but I realized that this tank is not as common as I thought.. I've found only 7 M10 GMCs/Achilles in Neil's AFVs in the USA. In France we also have a little number (at least 9, including a hull) of TD M10s.

Hi Folks!

We are lucky there are any M10 TDs still around. Like many of the AFVs fielded during the early to mid war years very few survived being replaced by newer vehicles (in this case the M18 and the M36), upgraded to newer versions (M36) and de-fanged for use as heavy prime movers for artillery, and finally the disbandment of the Tank Destoryer Command after the war.

My guess would be that by that time, most serviceable M10s were high on the list for use as range targets.

While it comes to numbers build, the M10 is not that rare, but when it come to numbers that surivived to this day, the numbers will be very rare. After all, back in 1945-46, who needed left over M10s?

The other thing that limited the number of M10 survivors was the vehicles were converted to other uses during the war when they were no longer desirable as TDs. Some were converted to M36s and others to artillery tractors (I have seen a couple pictures of them towing 240mm Howtizers or 8" guns)

The M10 at Aberdeen was brought back from Italy where it's gun tube had been shortened to allow more flexibility in narrow streets. The collar was added as weight compensation to keep the gun balanced
