Finally...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Finally...

Well its officially over just 15 minutes ago.

Op Banner was the second longest campaign by the British Army. It lasted 38 years and resulted in the loss of 763 members of the security forces.

It was marked by unofficial services at the various memorials scattered across Northern Ireland after the Government decided to engage in a case of collective amnesia.

Cool

The 100 years war which actually lasted 116 years from 1337 to 1453

Britain also holds the record for the shortest war on record which was fought between Zanzibar and England in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes. The emir declared war at 0915, 25 minutes later a british battleship steamed round the headland and started shelling the royal palace and they surrendered.

Cool

Well, wait a minute...I wondered if someone would chime in with that "one"...which it wasn't. Hundred Years (well, more like 116 or so) was more like a series of conflicts, not a single "campaign" of what we can call the "British Army". It's not like it continued unabated...with continuity..for the duration of the period involved. The "hundred years war" is really a construct applied to by historians long after the fact, it had no such name at the time or for centuries thereafter. Hardly counts in this context.

Stop nitpicking Doug Wink

Its a term used to cover the the Edwardian War (1337-1360), the Caroline War (1369-1389) and the Lancastrian War (1415-1429).

Things really went downhill when the french stopped being the traditional enemy...

Cool

How about the Crusades? Just watched 'Kingdom of Heaven' again,.....

Is that to be in consideration along with the Irish 'Campaign'?

Honest reply, without splitting hairs...

...with interludes of peace lasting as long as twenty-six years? Not quite nit-picking...or a "campaign". To say nothing of calling Fourteenth and Fifteenth Century armies fighting for the then English kings the "British Army". Just sayin'... Wink

What, you sayin' fighting Germans wasn't fun? You certainly don't get that idea from a tour of the IWM. Laughing

Thankfully, that's all behind us now!

Totally O/T, but here goes....( THIS IS HUMOR !!! )

A True Tragedy...

We've all seen the faces of those ravaged by the floods of Sri Lanka and New Orleans ......

This "award-winning" photograph of the recent flood waters rising in Ireland captures the horror and suffering there.

Keep these people in your thoughts and prayers.

( NOTE: If anyone is offended, I shall remove this post. Additionally, I am of ACADIAN FRENCH / IRISH / SCOTTISH decent......) Shocked
