M60 at Fort Campbell Range Control
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This old girl is co-located with the PV-5 (?) M1 at range control. The serial number is 1808, I could not get the RN. This is the only M60 on Fort Campbell now as far as I know.

Neil, this one’s not in the register (V2.5). Also, the 2 M60A3’s that were at the National Guard motor pool in early 2004 were gone. I’m pretty sure they are now on static display somewhere in either Tennessee or Kentucky.

This tank has a local modification not common to M60A0’s. Someone went though the trouble to install air restriction gauges on the air cleaner boxes. This is the early type restrictor that is much smaller than the one used with the VEDES system.

Joe,
What's a tank even doing at Ft. Campbell? I'm one of those ex-101st that never managed to make it there so it's a fair question...did any armor actually operate there? I notice you specify it's located at range control. Is this just a monument or were there armor operations involving the type there at some point?

Seems strange to see a slick 60 in that camo...pity about the headlights.

D.

Is the T-55 still around?

Last time I was at Ft Campbell was in December 1986. I was attending Air Assault school. We rappelled out of Huey's, and were still sling-loading Gamma-Goats and M151's. However we were the first class to wear the then new Kevlar Helmet. We had to stecil our student number on to the sides of the helmet perfectly. Man could I tell you some stories of that happened during that class session! Anyways, I don't remember seeing any displays back then and don't know if any were near the training grounds back then.

I wonder if this tank could have belonged to Tennessee's 278th ACR? They probably train there. I wonder if the headlights are inside?
