Found this in a late 50's era Fording test made by APG at Ft Story Va. I've captured a few stills for the interested....

1) An M48A1 in the deep surf.....

2) The M48A1's fording kit sorta leaks & vehicle is swamped. It is towed out of the water. (Crew is standing on the back deck in this still)

This video shows M48A1, M48A3, & M103A2 having kit installed & then cruising around in the surf.

You laugh but there are some "Frankenstein" display tanks out there. The Valley Station KY M60A2/M48 is one of them. And as someone said before, years from now some one will argue that it was an actual vehicle used. I guess us CIA types have a duty to keep that from happening.

Joe D

Is this a recovery exercise vehicle, or a display vehicle? If it's a display vehicle, does anybody have a decent picture they can post? I'd like to see this oddity (the recovery exercise vehicle stuck out in the mud I've seen pictures of).

T'anks in advance!

This sounds like the Zussman Range M60A2/M48. But I could be wrong.

Joe where in Valley Station??? I can do a drive by tomorrow. Let me know.

Joe, any explanation for this M60 SN?:

4038E

What rebuild depot is an E?

Neil

When I resorted the 'NEW' TACOM List I found that there is a 4038M M60A3 at the same location as '4038E' (County of San Luis Obispo; San Luis Obispo; CA)
So I am pretty sure this is a typo.

Bob, you've confused me - are you saying the VFW Post #5421, Louisville KY tank and the Valley Station tank are the same? I have 2 different addresses:

VFW Post 5421, 7111 Lower Hunters Trce, Louisville

VFW Post 1181, 6518 Blevins Gap Rd, Valley Station

1) Valley Station VFW has an M48A5 hull (SN 932B ?- perhaps a prototype?) with an M60A2 Turret (cast SN 236 on TC side of turret) and has the name 'Buford' on the gun tube.

Bob that map was WAAAY wrong.

2) The Shepardsville VFW has an M47 with SN 7747

I have photos but technical difficulties will delay me from posting them.

Stay tuned....

That's why we need to field check. It did bother me that I didn't see any obvious spots for the tank in the photo but there were some shady areas. Was the address we had right? (6518 Blevins Gap Rd) Can you slew the map to the right spot and give a better link to the location?

2) The Shepardsville VFW has an M47 with SN 7747

I got this from Google maps and I'm pretty sure I see the tank

I zoomed by it, locked up the brakes, jammed my car in reverse and back up to the turn in.

No problem though. I love scavanger hunts.... Mr. Green

Didn't think of getting the actual street address.

It looks like Don and I use different ways of including Google map pictures into postings. I do it by clicking on 'Link this page' then doing a <control C. to save the text line and then using<control V> to daste that reference into the message. It occasionaly catches me in a gotcha (Neil ran into one of those earlier today when the link I saved was the wrong one) The dig problem I've found is when I scroll the map because it didn't pop up exactly where I wanted it. In those cases it seems to link to the original map reference. Does anyone know how to tell Google maps 'Lock in on my current spot before creating the link?
