M114 SWAT lingle gets WGTi mods (pics updated and resized)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

We are in the process of donating some alterations to this lingle, which is expected to take place in phases. The first phase involves removing obsolete or unecessary equipment, relocation of some of the remaining equipment, and removal of unused brackets and hardware from the exterior and crew area, repaint and install decals. At that point we will make preparations to begin phase two. Here are the "before pics" You may have seen this unit on TV and if you have not, it will be back on Court TV in November.

Hi WG Tac! Hi Folks!

For a Police vehicle, it looks out standing! Can't wait to see the changes!

Thanks for the update!

I just had an odd thought! I retired from the Army and I am now working in a law-in-forcement support job. The M-114 Lingle is following my lead and also now going into the law-in-forcement support mission. Confused

Sgt, Scouts Out!

WGtac

Can you do something for us. There is an ongoing discussion about M114 serial numbers. On most Lingles there appear to be two numbers stamped on the rear hull, one below each tow lug. The one below the left lug is usually pretty tight up against the bottom of the lug with the right onebing several inches lower. The numbers are usually different, sometimes by just a few numbers but sometimes more. It is believed that one of the numbers is the Ordnance 9Army) serial number and the other is the 'build' number. The problem is we usually cannot get inside to look at the data plate to see what the official serial number is.

Since you obviously have access to the inside of your vehicle could you look at those two locationa and the data plate and see which (if either ) of the numbers match up?

Thanks

On all the units we have here, the numbers on the back differ from each other (right vs left) and I have seen no correlation between either of these numbers and the serial number. Additionally, the two numbers on the back range from 2 to 4 digits, with one case having a 2 digit number on the left side and a 4 digit on the right. Shocked Roy, I would like to hear more about your LE support role, and how the lingle will play in that. Cool

Hi WG Tac! Hi Folks!

I currently work for the US Border Patrol as a radio operator. I take radio and phone calls from Border Patrol agents for checks on people and vehicles.

I am guessing the Police Departments (PD) and Sheriff Offices (SO) would be using you modified M114s as mobile shields to protect SWAT team members as them move closer to an armed subject.

The Gwinnett SO ended up with this M114 as the result of a generous donation by a private individual. It has since been put to use in several situations where this type of advantage was useful Wink The Gwinnett SO SWAT is truly a top shelf team. Here is the link to the previous owner of this machine's website where as to date, the M114 is still listed.

Hmmmmm,

a Saladin... 6 wheels, armour and 76mm gun- who could resist? Too bad you have to cut out parts of the armour plate over here, somehow it seriously spoils the fun. Sad

Good deal! Looks like you have a 20mm cupola too. Is that a mini gun I see?

That is a xm26 cupola that we are making the xm27 mods to. I still need a couple things for it like an accumulator and a fire control box...so far no luck. (if you know of a resource, I would love to hear about it) The m134 is a display only, but there are two M3HB semis that are quite live, one of which is mounted on the camo M114.

I'll admit I'm surprised that it's being painted green. I was waiting to see what it would look like in a 'Black and White' or other police type paint job.

Black, white and grey in a digital pattern maybe...but I dont think I would be too enthused about the classic black/white on a SWAT vehicle. Not saying I wouldnt do one...just wouldnt be excited about it. Hopefully we can get the decals on in the next couple days. Now is when it gets fun Smile
