OPFOR `77
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Scaned these in for a reply on a different site, but thought some of you might get a kick out of the hippies hanging out on Ivan's tanks. These were shot down in the motor hole at Hohenfels in `77. This stuff came from Israeli sources, there were Hebrew name tags all over the driver's panels.

Hi Tanker2010! Hi Folks!

Hohenfels in `77?

We must have just missed each other!

I saw that collection of vehicles during the winter of 76/77 at Hohenfels.

I remember there was a BTR-152 APC and one of the guys in the tour group said something along the lines of "this is not a real Russian vehicle, that engine is the same one that is in the M-35 2.5 ton truck.

If I remember right, the tour guide said that Russian spare parts were not available through the NATO system and they had to used what they could get. It was hard not to LOL at the guy who made the claim that the 152 was a fake.

Some of my old history.

Something I hadn't thought about before

The one picture shows a Tiran being slaved off an M60. Had the Israelis modified the electrical system to be compatable with western systems or are standard Soviet vehicles compatable already?

If the IDF hadn't changed out the electrical system, my guess would be the same team the put that M35 truck engine in the BTR152 modified all those vehicles with US batteries and jumper cable connections.

The longer we used those things the more conversions I'm sure they needed to keep them working.

My 2 cents,
Sgt, Scouts Out!

All US tactical vehicles are 24V negative ground, right? I assume that is a NATO standard, am I right? What voltage are Soviet vehicles? I assume they have a standard that all are built to?
