weekend road trip Indiana and Illinois
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

But seriously...
I was thinking the same thing...looks like the coincidence rangefinder without the "ears" and a provision (sorta') for the coax machine gun?

I think the wheeled cart under the "turret trainer" is a bomb cart or radar antenna carrier - looks familiar.

Kurt, I'm not real sure the scooter is real either, the guy said it was, but people say a lot of things, he has a lot of things around his shop, V12 Allisons, V16 Caddies, engines I've never seen before. He really had some interesting stuff...

The scooter looks real. They were built by Cushman and used in WWII. I remember a very nice one at the MVPA show at Aberdeen several years ago that Dr Atwater awarded the 'Directors Award' at the show to. I'm pretty sure I've seen old footage of them in use. They weren't the center of attention but visible in the background.

Bob I've seen a lot of these, the Cushman Model 53 but his is a odd one, he says they built his model first and it was too small to carry the load. Its about 3/4 the size of the model 53, tiny little thing......

Hi Kurt! Hi Folks!

- Kurt_Laughlin

I think the wheeled cart under the "turret trainer" is a bomb cart or radar antenna carrier - looks familiar.

It's not a cart, but a pair of dolles that hook onto the ends of electronic equipment shelters. The large type that would normally set in the cargo bed of a M35 duce and half. The middle area under the M47 turret trainer is not part of the system.

I first saw those dolles at Ft. Benning GA back around 1963 or so when the 11th Air Assault Division was testing equipment for what became the 1st Cav (Air Mobile) Div in RVN and later the 101st (Air Mobile) Airborne Division now at Ft. Campbell.

Spot Report and some more of my very old history!

In Salt Lake City I saw a GOER Fuel Truck in a junk yard. Would like to have it.

Its a real one I think, I figure they got it from Freeman Field in Seymour Indiana they had lots of German planes there after WWII, several years ago they found some buried German parts there. Very good article on the subject by Lou Thole in Forgotten, Fields of America, WWII Bases and Training THEN and NOW, Vol II.

Freeman Field in Seymour Indiana

Greencastle, Indiana also has two very rare 76.2mm Japanese AA guns
