FCS Mules
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: FCS Mules

Hi Folks!

Remember Niel's great photos of the AUSA meeting last August. This is his picture of the Mule AT mock up with funny bumper markings!

Neil, I see your mockup and raise you one working cargo version of the Mule! There is some type of FCS display going on this week here at Ft. Bliss. I wasn't invited, but no one seamed to object to my present or my camera. I figured pictures would be OK because the Brigade markings on the vehicles had been taped over. They left the company letter, vehicle numbers, and 1st AD markings out. Anyone who has picked up a local base newspaper or looked at the Army Images Site, would know which Brigade this unit is. Very odd.

The guy who was driving it had a pack on with something that looked a bit like an old PRC-25/77 back pack radio, only twice as tall.
Somehow I messed up and lost the first two pictures I took of it as I was drving by. Crying or Very sad

The worlds largest RC car kit!

The Bradleys are M2A3s, the Abrams are M1A2 Sep, Ver 2s, and the M113s are A3 models. All the vehicles came here as fresh overhauls with all the latest MWOs.

I was told that all the vehicles also have what is currently called a "B" kit installed on them. One of the civilians that works with this program here, is a model builder (good too) and has joined the local model club!
Some of the kit is a laser engagement system (like the NCT has), a data recorder that records every thing the vehicle, the crew, and the FCS elements that are installed do during a field test. I don't have much in the way of details on which FCS items are currently part of the "B" kit, but per the local base newspaper, most of it is the newest command, control, and reporting gear. Or as you put it Neil, lots of antennas. Four on most of the vehicles and a couple of Hummers had five.

Spot Report!

Hey

Looks similiar to Test & evaluation system 'we' used back in 1993 for the M1A2 IOTE. But the hit sensors are definitely MILES based.

The over the gun optics are quite similiar, although the high COAX mounting is actually above the Main Gun bore. Advantage!!! (a secret of my documented success as OPFOR in 1993 test....DOH!!)

Thats not GAMER or 'TWIGIS'. Do you have shot of turret rear bustle rack. Looking for box housing for VIDEO or DIGITAL RECORDER Blow out panel have stuff mounted,...??? Now you got me going...

My 'very stuck' & & broke tank, notice additional equipment.

Don
