Hello to all, this just came from my father, who served 35+ years in the Ohio National Guard and worked at this State HQ's. Since I myself served 10+ years in the ONG beofe coming active duty, I have some attachment to this for obvious reasons.Here was the accompanying article nad pictures;
On Friday, 23 May 2008 at Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio there was a very moving dedication ceremony. There is now a 10 foot tall Minuteman statue in front of the armory, along with a fallen Soldier memorial. It has a list of all the campaigns the ONG has participated in during our history. In addition, Gold Star License Plates were given to family members of several Guard members who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. There were several General Officers at the ceremony, Governor Strickland was there, and signed legislation creating the Office of Veterans Affairs as a cabinet level post in Ohio, following the dedication. The news media was out in force, along with representatives from many Veterans’ organizations. I am sure that there will be an article about this ceremony in the next issue of the “Buckeye Guard� magazine. I was impressed with the attendance at the ceremony, and was happy to see a number of individuals that I have not seen for several years. If you were not able to attend, I hope that at some point that you are able to visit the armory and view the monuments.
