Sgt York/Abrams Model
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Cool model 'bashing'

Hmmmm, seems to me, the weapons system might fit in a modified Abrams turret. Taking into account the availablity of older turrets.

Just an idea.

I built one when I was stationed in Massachussetts a few years back. Called it the Sgt. Major York. Fairly simple conversion onto an older Tamiya M1 hull, although if I were to do it again, I would have put the Academy turret on the Academy M1A1 hull, mainly because it would be cheaper.

Probably not the point, but wouldn't a Phalanx-type arrangement be more flexible and effective now? Anti-aircraft and anti-missile, selectable rates of fire, etc. Probably not any bigger and might be smaller from the turret ring up. Basically a gussied up M163 on a better chassis with enhanced fire direction? Might need to tow a small wagon for extra ammo it it really gets used, but so what?

The classic 'guns over missiles' arguement? Missiles tend to be more expensive. Guns might enhance a direct support secondary role.

Lets keep with commonality of munitions and available chassis, say perhaps twin 20mm Bushmasters on Bradley, drop the TOW launcher. Add tracking radar either in place on left of turret or on turret rear.

No troops, just fill the damn thing with ammo bins??

NOW THEREs an idea for a 'fantasy' vehicle model bash!!
