Sgt York (DIVAD Gun) Information
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Dennis
can you please enliten me on this.

I believe the navy has recently deployed a system called Goal Keeper. 30mm

Also
One has to question things the Israel ship attack during the Hamass crisis and several years back the USS Stark
In both cases there Phalanx anti aircraft systems were not turned on or left unmanned.
What’s up with that????
I know the Phalanx is proven in test and in theory but have yet to hear of an actual successful incident.

I have worked both guns and missiles and even air Born Laser
I still believe we have a big hole in our defense with out a modern gun.
Now I will say I question the guns in our Jets???
If you could point or automate them that’s another story.

I once proposed a stinger carousal for F18, it was not view seriously at the time, at the time F18 had too many other issues.

Also there should be two Divad systems out at China Lake
After the cancellation the Navy experimented with mounting the turrets to the deck of a ship. I had herd the results were outstanding, so I also assume Goal Keeper carries some of this legacy, Cheers Tom

Hi Tommy,

I shouldn't have used the word "obsolete". I remember the public uproar when the military announced cancellation of SR-71 flights. The Blackbird wasn't obsolete, but there were newer toys on the shelf. Another big fuss when they wanted to scrap the A-10s. The big scandal over DIVAD was a smoke screen to allow Pentagon types to try out newer toys. IMHO

I think I get your point.
But
I guess I look at who we are fighting and what are they throwing at us.
Currently an Air Born Laser system wont help.

We are currently fighting cave dwellers.Agreed?
If I were king I would be using A10s and C-130U's
I believe they even have a new Fuel air Bomb that works well.
and the Small Diameter Bomb also good.

Will always need newer high-tec weapons to ward off future foe that may be advanced than our current foe.

But I just believe we need to deal with the here and now,
(Here and Now) and we are not, well at least not very efficent or effectively. Just my view from the seats 8000 miles away.
Cheers Tommy
