Driving to Eastern Maryland today - planned AFV stops...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Driving to Eastern Maryland today - planned AFV stops...

Hey all,
I'm driving to Eastern Maryland today & plan to hit the following:

Grasonville M60A3
Cambridge M110 (unconfirmed)
Powellville M60A1
Berlin M4A3E8
Princess Anne M60A1 (unconfirmed)

Any insights or special requests are welcome...

Neil

I made it to Grasonville, Cambridge & Powellville today. My camera is acting up again, not wanting to transfer pictures normally, so I will have wait until I get home tomorrow night to post any pics. But I can provide the following info:

Grasonville M60A3 is AAD rebuild SN 1918A, RN JJ042P. Rebuild SN was stamped over the original SN on the tow lug (rear deck had too much paint to read), but will need to download the pic to make out the original SN. It came from APG - marked USAOC&S.

Cambridge indeed has an M110, with the SN TACOM said it had BMY846. Oddly enough, it came from 5-113 Field Artillery, NC ARNG. Okay, maybe not that odd in itself, since an M110 on display in Maryland is a bit unusual anyway - Maryland not having any "heavy" / mechanized ARNG units, let alone SP artillery units...

Powellville appears to be an actual M60A1, no windage sensor. It is SN 8111, not 8115 as recorded by TACOM. I almost wonder if there's a Marine at this VFW, since there's some liberal use of red paint on the lower front hull & on the roadwheels. Also got the RN, but will need to download before I can read it...

Didnt make it to the Berlin Sherman Easy Eight before the sun went down unfortunately. Looks pretty good though, and the hatches appear to be left open... hmm... May have to try to stop by tomorrow, although its a bit out of the way now...

this reminds me trying to reach the point B from the point A, and doing a much longer distance due to the many armoured things to see on the road Mr. Green I suppose that some of you guys see what I mean.

By any chance did you get to Rock Hall? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't, it's as far off the beaten track as you can get on the Eastern Shore.
I now have 'family' that lives there. I'm working with them and JoeD to get the details of the M60 there confirmed. I have a couple pictures and we have a registration number but haven't pinned down the serial number yet

I think I got some pictures of the Berlin Sherman a couple years ago (I thought I posted some here)

On Maryland's Eastern Shore it is worse because of all the water you have to get around. A Garmin doesn't even help sometimes. For example in Rock Hall MD it says the nearest Walmart is 6 miles away to the West-Northwest. The only problem is the Chesepake Bay is in between! To drive there takes about 4 Hours each way!

Neil,

Rebuild SN was stamped over the original SN on the tow lug

That's common to early Anniston rebuilds, somewhere between 2000 and 2100 they started to grind them completely off before stamping. She should have at least the wind sensor interupter bracket behind the cupola and might even have the "J" hook stowage bracket like the early Detroit models did.

I look forward to the Powellville M60A1 pictures. My only shots are from when they delivered her by lowboy off the internet. Wasn't any red on her then. I wonder how they came up with SN 8115 from 8111 unless the deck was swapped.

Nah, like you said, it was just too far out of the way...

BTW, I did confirm the Princess Anne M60A3, albeit with a crumbling paint job.
I also (barely) stopped by the M4A3E8 in Berlin (although I had to double back a bit of a ways) before it got dark last night. Took a few pics, but didnt dare climb in since I was wearing my suit... Tempted, but knew it would be trouble...

Will try to post pictures & further details tonight...
