Chrysler XM1 Fire Control Test Rig Photos on Ebay
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

"Seven color photos of the XM-1 Fire Control Test Rig circa late 1970s or early 1980s"

I'd love to know the dates, exactly, just for curiosity. I have reasons to doubt " '70's" however, but "late '70's" leaves some margin for error.

Looks like M60A1 in background, maybe Joe D. can confirm. If concommitant with A1 and not A3, then I could well be wrong.

Late 70's would be accurate. I remember the desert testing phase at Ft Bliss in 78/79.

Check out the Army Dodge pick ups.

You're right, never set foot in one of those pickups, though. Had my own G.I. issue Internat'l Harvester Scout, or used M151A2's when I DEROS'ed.
That Kaiser Jeep based thingy (M-715) was pretty cool, too (the one we called the "five-quarter").

Lack of MERDC camoflage on the other vehicles dates it to late 70's, I think. Is this actually some interim MBT-70/XM-1 development model? It looks like it has features of each.

Nope, its just the original competitor Chrysler XM1 - GM also had an XM competitor. The Chrysler model was selected and the turret got changed.

But you're right, the original Chrysler turret does have some resemblance to the MBT-70/XM803 turret...

IIRC the Chrysler XM-1 was being tested around 75-76. I don't have my references with me right now.

BTW, a more accurate title would be, "Making sure the Fire Control System developed for the US Army's MBT70/XM803 adapts to the Chrysler XM-1" Laughing

Chrysler couldn't even make FCS's economically for the M60A1.

I had been watching these photos before they were listed here. i definitely didn't expect them to go for over $55!
