Cincinnati M7B1 Priest-Where Did it go?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Cincinnati M7B1 Priest-Where Did it go?

I'm really curious about the M7B1 Priest listed as being on Asmann Avenue, near Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm fairly certain that it was at the following coordinates:

39° 9'27.32"N
84°28'29.12"W

And checking Google Earth/Maps and Live Maps at these coordinates it does appear to have been there at least in 2004, when the Google Earth images were taken. However, checking in Google Street View and Live's Bird's Eye View it looks like it's gone. In the Live view there are even what appear to be markings on the concrete pad where the tracks had sat. So my question is this: When was this vehicle last sighted, if ever? I had planned to go down to that area to see, but I've been told that the area it's in is not the safest neighborhood, and so I put off that plan.

Sometimes they remove them to repaint or repair them,

The Sherman in Rogersville TN is a good example. It was removed to a private shop where it was cleaned up and painted, then returned. They did a very nice job too. But that's rare, most of the time they just get a roller paint job on the site.

but I've been told that the area it's in is not the safest neighborhood

Yeah, some places I've been were pretty interesting. Early mornings are usually the best times, since most of the dregs of society are sleeping it off and customers are too. But even then I've never really had any problems. I look at it as an adventure. Gotta do something to keep the senses alive Cool .

That Priest disappeared a couple of years ago when the National Guard armory it sat at was closed. Don't know where it went.

Cav, Joe...scouting is in your job description. Questionable neighborhoods go with the territory.

Yeah,

But I spent more time in Tank Battalions, unlike the Scout's mantra "Cold weapons and Hot radios makes a good mission" , ours was more like "Veni, Vidi, Veci", since sneaking wasn't our job, slugging it out was. But the former is much better in certain places of Memphis, New Orleans, Cleveland, Chicago and others. Unfortunately only 28 States let me bring my friend along, yours ain't one either Mad (But neither is Georgia, go figure).

...and a hot radio assumes you've got somebody on the other end to respond in case your deal goes all pear-shaped. I guess that's why we hope there's a tank battalion or assault helicopter company available for backup. Laughing

So much for that, I guess. Odd, though, as the building doesn't really look like it was an armory. I had thought it was a gym or soccer arena of some sort. Thanks for the info.
