APG #3: For Joe, closups of M60A0 SN 7 shocks (nothing else)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

That answers one question,

Road arm housings are definitively early with thinner casting ribs and hex plugs for torsion bar anchors. So she is a very early M60, not an A1 hull.

Neil, did you happen to see any scars on the left hull that might indicate the #1 support roller was moved forward ?

My guess (only a guess) this tank was modified to test the newer three shock arrangement for the M60A1 hulls. Would explain why she was sent to Yuma. Most difficult process (which really isn't) would have been relocating the front support rollers and moving the speedometer cable opening to attach to the left one. Should be some evidence of the old attachment point and a plug for the speedo hole in the hull. I have a hard time believing this tank was made new with this set up considering it's age and the original requirement to not use shocks.

I also saw the M60A3 in the background of one of your pictures.

Man, I really need to get that way this summer.

Thanks for the pics Neil

The got ALL the money out of the roadwheels on this baby! I'm not sure if I've ever seen that much wear all the way around the wheels before.

Chuck,

And at least one set is brand new, so they must have been cobbling together any combination of road wheels they could find to make up a display. I can't imagine some of those wheels would have been found on an operational vehicle back in the day (assuming replacements were available). I wouldn't have had them on a vehicle of mine if better was available.

I think those are the 'friction type' shocks that the M48's used. We called them snubbers I think. Why did they do away with the hex anchor plugs? I hate the square ones. Never could find the right size crescent wrench for them Twisted Evil
