About AFV databases, locations, regions and the like
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Michael Krauss makes a good point about governments wishing certain locations to remain discrete. Anyone heard of Area 51? A postal code is an administrative convention to move papers and parcels around efficiently. But unless a 'tank searcher' is a postman, the average person can't decode them.

Professionally I prefer GPS coordinates as unmistakeable locations. There are grid converters available that will change DDMMSS coords to MGRS or UTM, and many portable map viewers that will show a searcher where to find something much better than a text description of so many kilometers from X, up the long driveway and behind the black iron fence.

Michel aka Tichenor,

told you it would be easy for you, but that is because you could search in Dutch / Flemish

I know Holland has the same "problem"

In Holland it is not necessary to know the direct location, just look for an blurred area on the google map of Holland

90% chance of hitting an army base and I think that is goverment regulation
just look for the town Schoonhoven, The Netherlands at google maps
Half the city is blurred and I do not even know of an military base there

That suprised my about military locations the US or Belgium, they are just laying there in the open Shocked Shocked

Concerning the open doors day at an militairy base or museums at army locations
The militairy want's the civilians to visit them, so they will have to publish to location if they want visitors to come
So street, town, etc are public information and free to use in my opinion
If you have that you can get the GPS yourself from the internet

All the equipment on other military locations, like an shooting range, etc...
They are not open for civilians so if some one has GPS locations of AFV's that are standing there.....they have been trespassing or is military staff

having access to the ranges and have registrated a lot of coordinates, I've been "asked" not to make them public. So revealing whats there isn't a problem, giving the exact location is. Peronaly I do not agree with that vision, but to keep out of problems I comply.

Although I haven't been asked, when reporting certain AFV's in some places, I do not reveal an exact location. There is no point if it is not accessible to the general public. Especially if it might lead to someone trying to go there illegally, which can result at a minimum arrest, or worse yet, serious injury. There are a few "Retired" AFV's still serving, but their use is not public knowledge either. I classify these as "Active" vehicles so they don't really belong in the register IMO since it's for "Preserved" AFV's. I try to track all M60's that I can, which leads to some interesting finds.
