Which??
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

M48A1 - early engine deck, lights, etc, but with commander's MG cupola.

Location - I don't know Asian ideographs but from the LVTP5 in the background my first guess is Korea, 2nd choice Taiwan.

Did the A1 have the trailing idler wheel? It has been removed on this one.

Yes, M48, M48A1 and M48A2 had the compensating idler near the sprocket. M48A2C, M48A3, M48A5 did not.

The second choice is correct, Taiwan/ ROC.

M48A1 re-engined with a diesel engine. The rear deck is the key, notice the exhaust ports on top have been moved left and right of the travel lock instead of a single one in front of it. I don't know what engine is used but I believe it's a variation of a modified AVDS-1790 with CD 850 transmission kit. This conversion required much less money and work done to the hull. Seen some dubious references referring to them as ROC M48A3, but that not accurate since the rest of the tank was not upgraded (FCS, Suspension). This power pack set up is also seen with their CM-12 tanks, which are M48A1's upgraded to M60A3 standards. The missing track tension wheel is normal, US M48/48A1's had an MWO that removed them while in service, some literally being cut of with a torch at unit level.

CM-12 rear view

Looks like this one escaped conversion. Pretty sure the LVTP-5 is a ROC Marine vehicle.

Post subject: Re: Which??

Thanks to Joe's observations and some notes I made back in the early 90's I think this is a CM-9.

Its brother the CM-9A had a 105mm fitted experimentally (probably a one-off)

Not sure about the CM-10 but it may have had improved sights/FCE.

CM-11 & CM-12 everyone already knows about...
