News from Ft Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

FRY,.....FRY.....

No news on those SNs. Been trying to get that info, but the holder of said info is on leave.

I'm beginning to think there is no specific info documented on shipped vehicles, but I could be wrong.

Don

Okay, thanks. Just let me know if/when you hear something when said person presumably comes back off leave.

If necessary, I can say that vehicle A at Fort Benning could be SN X, Y or Z - but that wont work so well when matching up with picture links.

Just let me know when I should give up and "cut bait" - thanks!

BTW, Today I did learn that the M4AE8 at Brooks Field will be replaced with an M60. The exact type is unknown, but we do have a few 'A1s' & 'A3s' in RMP.

No further vehicle moves have been made however more are sure to come. I do know a number of the statics in front of the museum will be staying, but only a handful (5 or so).

Garry, saw y'alls handy work from Friday. Sorry I missed out, POV mechanical failure stopped me 'in my tracks'.

Spent a few hours at the Museum today.

The moved vehicles are only awaiting movement to RMP. That is where they will eventually be loaded up for the big move to Ft Benning.

Don,
Is that the M48A2C that was at Stithton Circle (SN 1052, RN 9B1416) or a different one?

I didnt have one currently listed at Keyes Park...

The M48A2C above is the one that was on one of the slabs infront of the museum. I thought I had sent the SN /RN infor to you. I'll have to check on my 'notes'.

Stithton Circle is yet untouched, all vehicles remain.

Don,
Any word on the convoy 1 SNs/RNs? Or should I "cut bait"?

Similarly, that SN/RN info for the Keyes M48A2C?

Thanks,

Neil

Neil

Unfortunately I'm having some issues (work related...) getting on to post to get get that info, so I'd say for now, its a 'cut-bait' situation on Convoy 1.

As for the Keyes Park M48A2C, I'll try to get that for you. All my info seems to omit RN/SN on it, but I do have a number of photos.

Sorry for the 'non-answer'. I'll try to do better in the coming days.

Don

I'm not sure I can help, but that Patton might be one in my list (some of which include serials from Don from previous conversations and threads):

Great, done:

Fort Knox Hummel (UID189)

It's becoming a very good photographic history of this vehicle.

Well, this is very interesting. People who will repaint this vehicle at Fort Benning will be able to find the year of the layer of painting which they are scratching

Geoff Walden has sent me another photo of the Hummel which nicely fills the gap between 1955 and 1983:

Fort Knox Hummel (UID 189)

Just back from Post.

Here are the two M48A2C's that are still on Chaffee Road.

South side of Chaffee Road:

Note: The 'Home of Armor' lettering have been removed from the brick stand.

North side of Chaffee Road:

Don

Taken today, with no detectable SN/RN information. Too many layers of paint is obscuring any SN data. However there is a cast SN (725) on the underside rear.

I 'may' be able to get all the Ft Benning convoy SN data in the next few days, although don't hold your breath.

I think the M31 is going the same place the M32 is going. Not sure exactly, maybe Lee.
