USA (NOW V3.0!), Canada, France and Belgium AFV Registers
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Probably since they would get a runner (or at least a recent runner) that had gotten a lot more TLC...

I seem to remember hearing that Carlisle bought a Sherman from a private owner a couple years back. I heard it in the form of 'Why is the Army buying a monument tank when they have them sitting at Anniston in storage?'

In fact I found a thread where we discussed it back in Feb 2008

Good catches P-O, thanks.

Looks like the Army Heritage & Education Center bought it from that private owner. BTW, it can be very useful to search the G104 forum for a particular SN/RN to get such details.

CARLISLE
1-18 Field Artillery, Pennsylvania ARNG Armory, 504 Cavalry Rd
M4A3E8 Sherman Easy Eight USA out SN 65944
The Sherman register lists this tank as being SN 65914

11473(?) M4A3(75) Carlisle, PA USA
11473(?) M4A3 Private owner, Fort Defiance, VA USA
The 2 vehicles have the same SN in the USA AFVs register? By the way, the Carlisle example has a painted RN 3053628, which is an exact match with the SN

France AFVs register was updated today, with a far more precise list of the vehicles stored in the museum reserves buildings. I visited them two weeks ago and have seen near to all of the vehicles listed on the document.

A shame that I was not able to identify all the vehicles, some are listed as "unknown model/variant" or "unknown vehicle"...

New location:
M4A3(75) Sherman s/n 11605
Amvets Post #68, 3535 Westerville Rd

Aproximate Coordinates:
40° 2'28.99"N
82°57'1.27"W

I will try to get out there tomorrow to take photos and visually confirm the serial number. I'm definitely glad it didn't get scrapped! Smile

A correction for the Columbus Area-the M4A3(75) Sherman s/n 11605 that is listed at VFW Post 3826 has the wrong address-it was at 3910 Cleveland Avenue; I say was because I went to visit it today and found out that it was removed about 3-4 months ago. The person I spoke to wasn't sure to where, and I will be looking into it. The former coordinates were:

40° 2'53.35"N
82°57'16.92"W

Here's hoping it hasn't been scrapped Confused

Could be fake, the plug on the end certainly isnt right...

BTW, how about posting some of your Motts pics in a thread (on the regular section of the board)? I'm sure folks would love to see them - including me!

Thanks for the info!

Is the M551 missing its gun?

You can find the M110 SN right beside the front tow lugs. They are usually "BMY" and then a series of numbers...

BTW, AFAIK the Governator took back his tank last year...

The tube was still in place, but I'm not sure whether that's any way to tell:

I'll be sure to check those tow lugs next time Smile

Confirmed a bit at Motts Military Museum Today:

The M551 Sheridan is s/n 1193
i289.photobucket.com/a...G_7968.jpg
The Left rear bumper, although it was also painted on the side; dunno about "missing gun"

The M114 had a bunch of stuff in the indicated locations, not sure how to decipher them:
i289.photobucket.com/a...G_8053.jpg
Left Front 13C489, 089
i289.photobucket.com/a...G_8064.jpg
Left Rear, 1199

The M47 Turret Trainer is stored at the back with a truck and a boat I don't recognise:
i289.photobucket.com/a...G_8088.jpg

I didn't know where to look on the M42A1, M110A1, LVTH-6, or V-100 Commando, so if anyone knows where I can check next time I'm there. The Museum also has an M47 Patton that the Governator himself (yes, really) drove when he was in the Austrian Army, but it wasn't on display, so I assume it's kept in running condition. Hope this helps Smile
