Our plans and trips to military museums
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

My fault - I should have given more advance notice! We were just travelling on 28th anyway.

The outdoor display being closed was a shock, all I could do was take photos over the fence.

Also for me it was a family trip - my daughters are in a choir that toured to Vienna, so the museum trip was just a bonus. A lovely city.

What a shame I see this just now. I am just back from Vienna, I visited the Museum on 28th!

The outdoor display of AFVs is closed until March. That was expected, but I already covered it pretty well in the past.

I went mainly for the WW I artillery stored indoor, but that area is now closed for restoration Sad

In fact that was the last section with an old-fashioned display, with plenty of artifacts filling almost all the space. I am afraid it will be transformed like the other areas, with modern display, plenty of info panel but much less artifacts... Now, that's great for the average visitor, but not for hard-core enthusiasts.

Anyway, it was a family trip, not a tank-hunting one and Vienna is still my favorite place in the planet.

I fly to Vienna tomorrow for a New Year holiday. I plan to go to the main military museum so if anyone has requests for photos please let me know today.

Of course, if there's anywhere else with tanks in Vienna do let me know!

There is a lot of artillery in Sofia. I've covered everything that was on display

It's too early to plan for next summer. This year I've got some extra travel time, since I've moved to a new job and I took a few weeks off before starting. Next year it's not going to be the same Sad

if you wish, we could attend "tanks in town" 2014 and do the visit of the landing beaches the days before. The Todt battery is nearly on the road to Tanks in Town from where I live in Normandy.

As long as there is somebody willing to drive me around, and let me spend half a day at the Todt batterie, I would love to do it Smile

well, where is the "like" button...

Massimo, would you like to come here in Normandy? We have a challenge for you : to get nice photos from the Colleville Overlord museum. Quite a dark place, hard to get nice photos. I think that you could do miracles there.

This weekend the Militarmuseum in Full will run its annual, big event. I plan to be there on Saturday and I expect other forum members to be there too.

I'm planning to get to Wicksteed at War this weekend. There's not a lot of information online, but in magazine adverts I've seen they're planning to show the Alvis FV Society's collection of CVR(T)s, plus there's a running M41 tank.

There's also a Spitfire and Lancaster.

Not a future plan, but I'll just mention I had a (25 year) reunion at Sandhurst in January so I took the opportunity to photograph the Centurion there, and then the tanks at the nearby Aldershot museum. I'll post the pics when I get the chance.
