Good reference for Soviet artillery in WWII?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Good reference for Soviet artillery in WWII?

Did Ian Hogg actually not write a volume on this subject? The APG ML-20 made me realize I did not have a good reference work on the subject. I ordered Michael Foedrowitz's Soviet Field Artillery in World War II. Being published by Schiffer, I assumed it would be a good reference work and didnt notice that it was only 48 pages. I must say I am pretty dissapointed... What else is there out there? Is there a Hogg work I havent come across?

Neil,

Try:

Chris Bellamy "Red God of War - Soviet Artillery and Rocket Forces"
Brassey's Defence Publishers, 1986.

Reginaldo, thanks. I came across that one and was wondering whether I should get it.

I have also come across references to VN Shunkov's Weapons of the Red Army or Artilleriia, etc. However, I'm unclear as to whether these are in Russian only, or both Russian & English as so many books are these days.

There is a book on Russian artillery in their language:

A.B. Shirokorad "Entsikloprediia otechestvennoi artillerii" Kharvest, Minsk 2000 - (9X11 1/2) inches - 1,155 pages.

It's a superb reference book, with all the guns built as prototypes and production.

Even if you can't read Russian I reccomend, if only for the illustrations.

Reg

P.S.: I bought via East View.
