Post subject: German PaK or something

Hi folks

I have posted this picture before, that was before the crash

At the time I was not sure what it is and untill this present day I still not know what it exactly is

In 1944 there was an shortage of weapons in the german army so, some various make-shift solutions where created
For this gun I have 2 possibility's

option 1)
an shortened 75mm PaK barrel mounted onto an 50mm PaK 38 carriage, creating the 75mm PaK 50
Along with the short barrel came an new muzzlebrake
The idea was reducing weigth an improving mobility, however bacause of the shorter barrel the anti-tank performance was dis-appointing

option 2:
an shortened French 75mm field gun mounted onto an 37mm PaK 36 carriage
Creating the 75mm IG (infantry gun) 37 or 75mm PaK 37

The gun has typical feature's of both, however there is not an 100% match with either one Neutral

Who know's more about this gun and who know's if something similar still in excistence

Michel

hi Michel, I believe this could be a German 7.5cm Infanteriegeschutz 42 as shown on page 25 of Hogg's German Artillery of WWII

Hi armyjunk2

thanks for the post and the mail

However my reference is:
"small arms; artillery and special weapons of the third reich - an encyclopedic survey" of 1978
Only I have the German reprint of 2008 Wink
And from what I could find there is more resemblance with the two I mentioned

I could not find an photo of the real thing, just an picture of an model kit of the 75mm PaK 50

If you compare this picture with the photo there is only an mis match with the gun shield

The 75mm PaK 37 aka 75mm IG 37 is very similar to the 37mm PaK 37 only the barrel looks like the one in the picture above
I found an picture at the lonesentry site
www.lonesentry.com/ord...gun/page/2

Actual picture
www.lonesentry.com/ord...witzer.jpg

The mis-match here are the type of wheels used
I tend to believe it is an 75mm IG 37 Neutral

Concerning the difference in muzzle brake at the photo and the first picture
According my reference there was an muzzlebrake with 3 or 5 pockets, so this is not enough to make the difference between both

Michel

No worries, be happy

However I have an question for you now
Is there an picture of either one (so the 75mm PaK 50 or 75mm IG 37) in the Hogg's German Artillery of WWII book Confused Confused
