T-72 number and sign question
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

From which country is this T-72 and what is the meaning of the triangle on the right side of the number. Is this a unit sign like NATO has (tankbat/infbat etc) or something else. Picture is taken by, and from J.Caddo TIA, Lesley

That's the T-72M1 sitting at the Military Museums in Calgary; I believe it was a former East German vehicle, nothing I can tell you about the marking though...wondered myself. Jim

If it is the one from Calgary, then it is a former DDR T-72. I drove this beast for 45mins. Liked the aggressive gear to weight ratio and would pop a wheelie when punched into gear, and I almost drove into a parked cargo truck......LOL Anthony
