FV4101 Charioteer with 105mm gun
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: FV4101 Charioteer with 105mm gun

In the Osprey New Vanguard book "Cromwell Cruiser Tank 1942-50" there is a mention of two Charioteers having been converted to take the 105mm L7 gun in place of the 20-pdr. Considering the former was essentially a bored-out version of the latter, it would definitely fit. According to the book, one was converted in 1960 in the UK (no serial number or any identification provided) and reportedly a British Army team went to Lebanon to examine a similar conversion in 1972.
As it is a very interesting modification, I searched for pictures and found this:

Source.

Can anyone clarify whether this is the original vehicle tested with the L7 or merely one fitted with this weapon for display in the museum?
