Battlefield Vegas M60A1 - Unusual Hull Stampings
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Battlefield Vegas M60A1 - Unusual Hull Stampings

I recently visited the Battlefield Vegas attraction in Las Vegas. Among many other vehicles they had an M60A1. The front tow lug was stamped 10410. At the rear, the removable engine deck was stamped 10369 and the hull side was stamped 506106. There was no registration or rear hull weld markings visible.

I have seen references to M60A1 RISE/Passives with "serials" around 525000 which I thought was some other ID number, and the highest M60A1 serial I have recorded is 10353 in the serial range JJ02Y1 - JJ02YZ.

Any further info available?

Kurt,
This tank used to belong to Steve Preston (RIP) in Oregon. Former USMC M60A1 RISE/Passive. One of the last group of M60A1’s made in Detroit. 5 digit SN and one piece bustle rack are good ID features. The back deck, like many, got switched. SN 10369 is actually still around and is located at Chiracco Summit California along with a bunch more USMC M60A1’s . The 6 digit number on the rear hull is the USMC Registration Number. They are either stamped or stick welded there on almost all USMC M60A1’s. They also are real good about painting that RN on the side sponson boxes. They also should have an M728 CEV that also came from Mr. Pestons collection. Still trying to get the SN on that one. Info I received a while back didn’t make sense.

Thanks Joe! I was hoping you were still on the board.

So, were these tanks made for or sent directly to the USMC without getting an Army registration?

What was the highest M60 SN?

I saw the M728 but it was in their restricted area so I couldn't get a number. They were doing some kind work on it. In fact they had several crews working on vehicles. They had several Leopards on site - What do they do with all this stuff?

Kurt,
Still here checking, where I first started so always have a sentimental attachment to this site.

USMC M60A1’s were purchased using their funds. They bought their tanks new from Chrysler. Once accepted they were assigned USMC Registration Numbers. First group RN’s started with 399. All I have come across were in the 71 to 7200 SN Range, corresponding well with the initial fielding of their M60A1’s. Later groups started with 501, 502, 506, 514, 515, and 525. 506 and above are all 5 digit SN’s. The highest M60A1 SN I’ve seen is 10442, RN 515031. Not sure what the highest was.

Battlefield Vegas has this tank and other AFV’s for tours and for a price people can drive them. 10410 was a complete rebuild they did after getting her to include removing the turret and fuel cells. They also patched the center section of front hull that was cut out during the demil process. She had the ERA kit but they removed it.

Joe,

The M728 is stamped 182 on the rear deck. I visited Vegas this past May and was given access to see it.
