...because, who doesn't like a little bush...flying...now and then?

JG300-Hoppa turned me on to this stuff last night, downloaded, but haven't had time to install yet, but geeeezzz.......this is too good to pass up! This collection covers an enourmous area of one of the world's most picturesque and challenging areas to fly.

'Specially for those of us with a particular sweet-tooth for bush flying around the northwest territories, including the KORS pigsty, and an as-yet undisclosed locale that is surely soon to become a hotbed of Aviat Husky, Grumman Widgeon, Maule M-7 and Piper Super Cub activity!

For those not entirely all tooo familiar with the benefits of terrain mesh add-ons, long story short is that you get finer, more accurate resolution of the terrain and hence, realism.....as witnessed by the shots below, which I couldn't resist putting here:

Pretty sweet eh? And all in the same corner of the world, starting with Oregon and working up through B.C. So detailed, bet ya'd find a Sasquatch or two in there. Here's the areas and download links at good 'ol Avsim.....

British Columbia / Northwest Area Terrain Mesh's:

Bella Coola Valley Scenery:
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=46229

Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Volcanoes, USA
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=38200

High-resolution 76-m (LOD9) Terrain Mesh and Scenery Enhancements for Southeastern British Columbia, Canada
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=61493

High-resolution 76-m (LOD9) Terrain Mesh and Scenery Enhancements for the Southern Canadian Rockies
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=38201

US North Cascades Mountains and Northwest Washington Coast
(Covers Vancouver area and San Juan Islads, including KORS "Da Pigsty")
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=48485

Terrain Mesh of Glacier National Park
(require an existing installation of files bcmesh9d.zip and/or bcmesh9e.zip)
library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=40960

Not having installed all of them yet, not sure about the last one but I think you sould be good to go if you get the ones listed above it. Count on one thing tho, the Wild Sau's are gonna be runnin' loose in these mountains for a long time to come....WOOOOHOOO!

right on Stoopster,,,,,good work laying it all out there,,,,,I think this will win some people over for sure,,,,what a difference eh!!!!!,,,by the way,,,,that pic with the skiier,,,,,that is a pic of my hometown ski hill......kicking horse mountain resort in Golden B.C....CYGE,,,,the scenery around the whole area is so precise the logging clearcuts(ahem...that I logged),,,are in the exact places, as are the rivers, roads, ski hill,,,,this is good stuff for sure,,,,of course the buildings are really nothing like reality but I can live with that.......and seeing as I never have flown into Banff without this mesh,,,,I never would have noticed the anomoly there,,,,,,one of the most popular mountain resort tourist towns in canada,,,might be something there for anomoly airways huh,,,lol.....

I'd also like to mention this now that have looked at everything,,,,just a thought for those adventurous folk who are looking for a long but very cool Hop........if you were to have the southeastern , bcmeshp2, and the one of the columbia gorge.....you could actually take off from the headwater lake of the columbia river,,,,,which is just a bit more south if Invermere B.C.,,(CANAL FLATS),,,,,,and completely follow the river throughout its journey to the ocean,,,,,,,I dont know much about it after it goes through Revelstoke,,,,,,but from invermere to golden ,,up the kinbasket lake to the Mica damn,,,( first of many on the river ),,down to revelstoke is some of the nicest areas I have ever been,,,,,many years of logging the bush arm, sullivan arm, cummins and tzar creek arms of kinbasket lake give me confidence to say this is some of the most remote, beautiful country anywhere in the world. To this day there are downed private aicraft in that region that have never been found,,,,I can think of two for sure in the last 5 years!!!!!,,,,,thanks again stoop for all the info you posted,,,,I myself now have the total set,,,,,,,next will be his 4 part BC/ALASKA series,,,,,but have so much area now to fly there is no rush...

happy downloading gentlemen Mr. Green

OK! Having installed, it, I do have to say: it's not for the faint-of-heart. The readme's must be followed carefully, there are several file moves/renames and folder manipulations. I worked carefully with two folder windows open (one open to the unzip folder, and one open to the various FS folders) and the readme.txt file open below them, each time, for all 6 packages. Took me about half an hour or so, so schedule time appropriately.

In all fairness though, I will say: It was worth all of it and more! Screenies will follow, be sure of that. Right now I'm gonna get back to exploring all the cool stuff...Mt Hood and Mt. St. Helens also, along with the routes you suggest Hoppa.

yeh.....hehe,,,,I guess your right about the time cosumption thing with the installation of these files,,,,,I never really said much about that because I have always figured that if I can do it,,,anyone can,,,,I mean that in all truthfullness too......the main reason I think I was able to get through it is because the install instructions were great,,,,,,,each step is carefully and explicitly laid out and quite easy to follow,,,,,,

so ya' likes there Stoop,,,,,,??????,,,,I knew you would,,,,,

Rolling Eyes

S ! fella's !

If there is tricky file moving and renaming involved, would it be an idea to make the mentioned item into an "EZ-install" file so before one gets messed up he'd click a couple of times and it would be installed as intended this is also a way to make shure that at the end of the day all are left with the same item to look at and not due to different ways or maners all looks different.

just a tought ......

Outstanding idear, Fled, and yeah, that's really what the above package screams for!

Especially since, when you are done, you end up with seven (not six like you'd expect) seperate scenery areas to enable in the scenery manager....or, as the author says, you can go one step further and merge all the BGL and texture files together in one lump manually and have just one area (BC) to enable....which is what I did.

Heres the twist: There are a few original BGL files in the fs9\scenery\namw\scenery folder that have to be disabled, either by being moved elsewhere or renamed. I know that Installmaker supports special scripts and offers an uninstall feature. Since I've already done all that and have used Installmaker before, guess I'll have to look into this....will need a guineau pig to try it out when it's all done....?

Go see the "So There I Was..." thread in the JG300 forum for a picture of Mt. Hood and the incredible detail. And keep in mind - those pictures were taken from my laptop, for crying out loud. Scary to think what it would look like on a "real" computer, lol. Results like that, with incredible detail for bush flying from Oregon all the way up through BC, make this worthwhile.

Update:

Just finshed condensing it all together, made a full packing list, modified 2 batch files to perform file moves for install and uninstall options, all looks good to go, will do the install shell later today.

The test ZIP file I made in the interim shows a size of 111MB. I expect it to grow to, oh what, about 112-113MB when the overhead of the install shell is added.

Hope it ain't too big?

Nice tho....

I think everyone here has come to expect FS2004 files to be larger than most other Flight sim file and that's especially true for Scenery and Texture files. Files over a hundred mb are more and more common now and I suppose it's the price you have to pay for "cool"...

Okey Dokey then....I spent the afternoon building and testing a new EZ-Install package....came out to 110MB with some clean-up.....even have a script to restore some of the original scenery files which need to be removed/renamed (I just move 'em to a backup folder), since some of the original FS9 scenery files are incorrect and Holger Sandmann's stuff acts as a full replacement for several areas.

Readme file is done with install instructions, a tip for making this stuff look even better, lists of airport codes in the improved areas, and a list of extra features included.

Didn't want to upload to the Com-C server during the memorial flight for Shadow_Draken, so as not to interfere at all (same server, isn't it?)...so will upload later.

Just need an interested volunteer to beta-test it.....anyone? (maybe Ascout can vouch for my attention to detail if anyone is nervous about that part)...:D

TY Fled! Saw the memorial flight spics and looks like a great turnout, btw, very very nice!

Uploading now...gonna take a while....will post URL when done....also have 6 flight files in a ZIP if you'd like, as before-and-after flights to ad testing and show the differences.....

Stoopy's ability to 'stoopify' files safely for easy install is hereby vouched for! If he done it, it works with no risk.

How does this impact the Pig Sty and Com-Central Wilderness base, if at all? (it may not, the elevations were low and I built on existing space...though elevation sensitive stuff like my pig in the control tower might be misplaced)

Thanks Ascout! As for impacts to your sceneries, NO change to them whatsoever.....even insofar as immediately adjacent areas, it appears. Orcas 1 looks more like stock than the other mesh I had used, and the other scenery I am 'testing' for ya looks fne as well.

I did put in the install instructions, that when enabling the new scenery area in the Scenery library, to use the "Move Down" feature to prioritize it under your stuff as well, just to be on the safe side.

Wanna be a second beta-tester?
