okay, I won't keep you in the dark any longer. The 104 is in Jackson, NJ. Also in Jackson is Six Flags Great Adventure and it just so happens that the plane is on their property. Here is a picture of it in happier days

when it was part of the stage dressing for a ride called the Right Stuff. details here

The X-1 is probably the mock up from the movie, but IIRC the 104 featured in the film was a one seater so this may well be a real bird.
just as a point of interest, about 25 miles away in the Air Victory Museum in Medfrd, NJ you can see a dutch 104
