I still don't know if the original plane is needed (case yes, here you can take it -> library.avsim.net/esea...DLID=71723 ), but here is a great package from Stuart Green!

"This is a multi res model with several animations. Features include Detailed engine with animated parts. Use the Spoiler key to reveal more of the engine All moving control wires within Virtual Cockpit Can be started from cold within Virtual Cockpit by using gauges Use L key for simulated gunfire This pack also includes an additonal 18 colour schemes to my original 2 by a very talented repainter known as "E". He did such a good job on them that I asked his permission to include them with this bonus pack. Some of them are actually DVa schemes applied to the DIII but if you read the excellent pdf file he also put together ( and included with this package) all will become clear. Do read it as it has some fascinating backgrounds to the schemes shown. (But, IGNORE the installation instructions in the pdf, all you need to do is shown in the README file)"

The collection is a stand-alone package, and it's full of very interesting liveries.
