Interesting AFV quiz ?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I took the above-mentioned photo (resized to 640x480) from outside.

The pictured component is to be found inside a MBT turret .

If possible , ID tank Wink

Thanks for a great discussion forum

OK - realize that it will be difficult to ID tank with no additional info !

Here are some clues - post-WWII era MBT (althought prototype was fielded in closing stages of WWII) and secondly , tank was manufactured in Old Blighty

That's enough from me Laughing

Hi Folks!

Will, why didn't you say so! Smile

It's a Mk 1 Centurion. One of my favorite post WWII vehicles.

Where is Ossie Osborn when we all need him? Ossie did you make it over here?

Spot Report!

Yep - The Centurion is the nicest looking MBT ever designed Wink

Apologies to those who differ from me Smile

This is actually a South African Olifant (Elephant) Mk Ia MBT.

I'm no expert , but as far as I know the Olifant Mk Ia differs from a Cent in the following ways:

RR Meteor replaced by a West German Diesel engine
British L7 105mm gun
Laser Rangefiner installed
Think some mods to suspension / chassis etc. also made.

Roy - have a pint of Guinness , Heineken or Bud on me

Cheers - Congrats

Dirk

PS - Where's Ossie ?

I know from diddly about this vehicle, but this looks like it might be part of a turret control handle.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Did they have commander's over-ride controls for the turret back then?

No idea, but this thing looks gimbeled to rotate through two axis with electrical connections to both. And, there's that switch-looking thing....

What I don't see....is a trigger.

"What I don't see....is a trigger."

Just a guess but could it use a foot pedal trigger? Seems I remember some tanks doing that

The direction from which I took the internal photo.

IIRC that's the TC hatch right next to my amazing photo editing skills Cool

Duh! I got caught up in the component question and missed the posts about what vehicle it was. "Forest for the trees" thing.
