EUROSATORY 2006 Military Show image galleries
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I like the M113 with the Rafael armor. Looks like it would be a better platform than the Stryker and cost a lot less.

BTW, on an off-topic note, my normally trusty Kodak DX6340 decided to die today. After Bovington & Eurosatory, it decided to die when I went to a decidely non-armor related locale - Fontainebleau palace. I was all ready, pulled out the camera, turned the wheel to turn it on, and... nothing... I reloaded the batteries... nothing... Bought new batteries... nothing... Worked fine yesterday <shrug>

So I now have the choice of mailing it to Kodak to get it fixed for $115 or buying a new camera for $250 plus... I'm tempted to do the latter, but dont like the "trade-in" options they offered. One had a great zoom, but probably wont fit in a coat pocket very well (my personal requirement for taking it on business travel). I may try to see if I can get another model, a Z700, instead...

So I may be out of action armor-wise for a while, although I could certainly use a break - I get back to the states tomorrow... At least the pictures from yesterday (the SD card was still in the camera) are fine!

We just got the newly-released Kodak Z612. We're sure happy with it. With the 1 Gig card it will hold 533 photos. Also shoots video. Will hold 31 minutes in standard mode with stereo sound. It has a 12X zoom for video and a 50X zoom for stills.

I'd hold out for the new Sony thats currently being reviewed and available later this year - it has interchangeable lenses...

A tad expensive at $600 but it could be worth it.

Cool

Okay, here's my pics:

Leopard 2 PSO

CV9-120T - has add-on armor, including APS.

Leclerc

Here's a couple links to videos of the Leclerc demo - albeit taken with my camera, so the picture is sometimes shaky.

Leclerc DNG

VBCI

Unfortunately, I only have one short video of the VBCI that doesnt have the tops of people's heads:

smg.photobucket.com/al...067MOV.flv

MMEV

Puma

Boxer

There's some wierd splotching on this picture, on the top of the hull. First time that had happened... And its not in the other pictures.

Piranha IV

Piranha IIIC

Centauro

SEP Tracked

SEP Wheeled

Centauro VBC

Pandur II

Funny looking (at least from the front IMO) mine-protected vehicle, Gefas

Lastly, Saumur's Char B1 bis

FWIW, I just ordered a Kodak Z700 for less than $150. 4 Megapixels (my old one had 3) and a 5x optical zoon (old one had 4x). A little bulkier than I would have liked - I hope I can still fit it in my suit pocket for shows like Eurosatory - but the better zoom was too tempting (especially for wingie-thingie shows). Seems to have good reviews, including from Consumer Reports.

Hope to get it in a few days, we'll see. Not sure when my next trip to APG will be, or any other armor for that matter. I was interested to read in the latest issue of Military Vehicles magazine that APG's KV-1 has been restored...

The CV90 sure has come a long way since I saw the first lot fielded during my service, it was an awsome IFV then and still is.

Ah, the Centauro. I have a soft spot for it, it just looks meaner than any other Italian AFV.
