Relook: M26 (SN 1773)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Relook: M26 (SN 1773)

Today I spent some time in RMP.

While taking a break from working on Cobra King, I jumped into this tank. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me today, but I did some snooping around and took good notes....

First of all the white painted 'dot' has its future destination on it.....Ft Bliss Tx (Heres another one for you Roy!!)

Anyway...

Interior is fairly poor and not too much has been stripped out. Full Breech with breech block is present.

Breech info: 90mm, M3, SN 2706 (1945)
Combination Gun Mount: T99E2 (from data plate)

Vehicle Data Plate is Missing.

There is a little plate with "Rehabilitated by Butzbach Ordnance Depot (dated 23,10,52)

This is the first time I've seen such a data plate.

Next visit I'll ensure to have camera to get images

Regards
Don

Here is a surprize. Using my cell phone camera I got a lucky shot.

This is the 'first time seen' rebuild data plate

Trevor: Guess you might need to add another Ordnance Depot that did rebuilding of USAREUR assigned tanks, 'back in the day'....

Cool Stuff

Don,
I down have 2 M26A1s at RMP right now - SN 1394 (ex Eglin), and SN 1761 (ex range target). I also have a third, SN 1947 (Ex-Stithton Traffic Circle), which I think has gone to Benning?

Is this one of those 3, is 1773 a corrected SN?

Thanks!

The 2x M26A1s went to Ft Benning already. One went by train, one went by truck

The Stithton M47 is still there. It will remain here at Ft Knox

Its not a correction but an addition that I think we hammered out a couple of years ago, but sorta got lost in the shuffle. I got the SN directly off of both rear tow eyelets (lugs)

This is one of the early production versions that has the slight 'cookie-cut out' on the underside of the turret. I remember talking about it before, but a long time ago.

Don
