How about a new (fairly easy to find) forum entitled "New Members".
I know we have an Officers bit and everything but it's all stranbge to a new member, not knowing your way around and everything.
Having a specific, easily identifiable "New Member" forum where they can make a first introductory post to say 'Hi', might encourage people to join in forum community posting once they've registered.
What say the C-C elders?

but I agree a 'welcome wagon' would be nice. Some of us were lucky enough to come over here en masse so we didn't have much problem taking over (oops , integrating 
) into the fold but it could be intimidating for a newbie
