Because the gun may have been captured from Chicom forces, who had some of them.

Sorry to dredge up such an old topic, but thanks to the AFV Register I was able to see some vehicles on the way to and from a vacation last week, including these ones in Memphis. A quick question, though: TM 9-2350-311-10 notes the external differences between the M109A4 and M109A5 as being the extra torque key and associated number of screws on the howitzer tube and mount. With the dust covers on, how was this machine identified as an M109A5? By serial number? Hunnicutt says the muzzle brake on the M284 was reinforced over the M185, but in the pictures in Sheridan it's tough to see any difference, and this vehicle has a cover over the muzzle brake in any case. Not doubting here, but trying to learn. Smile

Thanks!

Just realized I did get a shot where you actually can see the torque key in between all the stuff around it. Smile M109A5 it is!

Hi Chris,

I wanted to remind you about the US AFV Register maps and Garmin GPS Files that I made for fellow AFV fans. They're hosted/posted on Michel's site.

When traveling, you can search for nearby AFVs and navigate easily.

Thanks! That's what I used to plan my route to and from vacation. Smile Also visited the M114A1 in Elizabethtown, KY (the M109A3 is no longer there, unfortunately), the M103 in Radcliff, KY, an M728 in MO, and the M4E9 in Trenton, TN. Appreciate the hard work that goes into the register and files!

That Radcliff M103 goes WAY back. I sometimes wonder if the only reason it hasn't been moved (not that it should be) is the effort it takes to shimmy one of those things around!
