An article in a monthly publication for NCO's was a article about the use of 2 former Japanese Type 89 tanks in 1947.

From the heritage of a Dutch lieutenant a picture of Japanese tanks (Type 89) in Dutch service in 1947. On the back of the photo is written ‘tanks, watermannen, 1947’. Watermannen is the name of the 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment Infantry and the emblem symbols the crossing of the 3 Dutch rivers in the second world war.

In the combat reports of 1-3 RI is mentioned that during ‘’operation product’, starting on 21 July 1947, on D+2 a tank named ‘’de Bolsward’’ is hit by a mine with 4 wounded. On the end of D+3 the second tank is also hit by a mine without any wounded. After 4 days of battle nothing is mentioned about tanks in the combat reports.
