When did the shape of the M60A1 turret change at the front?

Jim, Patton pages 168-169 stated the elongated turret based on the T95E7 originated in June 1961. I don't think that you are referring to the much later M60 AN turret (vastly different) and I looked at photos of M60A1 and M60A3 and did not detect a major difference in shape. Although the M60E1 prototypes had less armor than M60A1 production models. Due to upgrades, the M60A1 Series and M60A3 series can be difficult to ID from outside and be confusing. I took photos yesterday (see www.flickr.com/photos/brick6757 ) of M60A1 at Jarrettsville, MD which had later T142 track, but no smoke dischargers or thermal wrap on 105mm gun. Don't know if this helps or hinders!
I also checked "M48A5/M60 Tank Series Configuration Matrix" January 1981. It lists various differences in all Models: M48A5, M60, M60A1, M60A1 AOS, M60A1 RISE, M60A1 RISE Passive, M60A3 Passive, M60A3 TTS, M60A2, M728, M60A1 AVLB, and M48A5 AVLB and I couldn't find mention of turret armor change.
